Volga Nizhny Novgorod deserve to play in the Russian Premier League, claims Valeri Ovchinnikov
The former Volga Nizhny Novgorod manager, Valeri Ovchinnikov, is of the opinion that Volga deserve Russian Premier League survival despite their recent defeat against Zenit St. Petersburg.
The Russian outfit suffered a 3-0 defeat against the league leaders.
With their latest defeat, Volga have now slipped down to the thirteenth spot on the league table, five points clear from the bottom.
It does not really matter if they win or lose against Rubin Kazan in the upcoming league encounter at home; they have already booked their place in the Russian top division next season.
Ovchinnikov went on to praise Volga head coach, Dmitri Cheryshev, highlighting that the former Dynamo Moscow manager has worked well after the departure of Omari Tetradze. Tetradze, who promoted Volga from the Russian First Division last year, failed to
lead the Russian outfit and was sacked.
Volga parted company with the former Anzhi Makhachkala boss after a series of defeats before the second round of the season.
“Cheryshev worked hard in order to keep the team in the Premier League. He made it look easy after signing a lot of new players. But In this situation, when you have a lot of new faces around, it is always difficult to manage.” Ovchinnikov was quoted as
saying.
Ovchinnikov concluded that Cheryshev has been instrumental for the players and the club, highlighting his experience of coaching career in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011. The Volgari boss had managed the likes of Sporting de Gijon, Burgos CF and Real Aranjuez CF in Spain.
The former FC Dynamo Kirov manager went on to admit that the Russian Premier League is difficult and insisted that every club belonging to this league need to stay on their toes the entire season.
Ovchinnikov revealed that the atmosphere in the Volgari locker room is fantastic and admitted that he will be more than happy to win the upcoming tie in the ongoing season.
The fact that Volgari have not scored in the last four league meetings worries Ovchinnikov, who lamented the strikers’ performances and urged them to shine in the upcoming league fixture against the Rubies at home.
