The Belarusian national defends himself against Zenit St. Petersburg failure and revealed that a Russian passport could have helped him extend Rubin Kazan stay.
FC Krylia Sovetov Samara central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergei-Kornilenko-c32960, has revealed the reason behind Zenit St. Petersburg and Rubin Kazan's failure. He lamented the situation but, at the same time, revealed that he saved his Russian Premier
League career by making a transfer to his current club.
The Belarusian forward joined the St. Petersburg club back in 2009 after spending an unsuccessful season-long loan spell at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Tom-Tomsk-c39228.
Kornilenko revealed that he has had a marvellous start to the season after his transfer and highlighted his debut goal against Saturn Moscow Oblast. However, he was restricted to just 11 league appearances by Anatoly Davydov after
the departure of then-manager, d**k Advocaat.
He went on to lament their UEFA Champions League exit after a shocking 5-4 play-off round aggregate defeat against Nacional.
“After the departure of Advocaat, Zenit went through a bleak period in their history. We flew out of the European tournament after suffering a defeat against the Portuguese club. Advocaat was then replaced by Davydov within no
time and the crisis continued.
“The fact that foreign players had more competition also demotivated me.
“However, I am not here to blame anyone because I failed to take all chances.” The Belarusian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Speaking on his out-on-loan transfer to Rubin Kazan, the former Dynamo Kyiv player revealed that he would have loved to stay at Tsentralnyi Stadion had he possessed a Russian passport.
“I liked everything, the atmosphere, calm and friendly fans, and a very interesting training process.” Kornilenko said
He revealed that he did not acquire a Russian passport as rumours had it that Belarusians will not be treated as foreigners in Russia.
Kornilenko revealed that the Russian Football Union policy affected his Russian top division career, as new rules set a limit to the number of foregin players a team could accomodate.
