Volker Finke: http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukas-Podolski-c22896 is staying at FC Koln this summer – Bundesliga news
FC Koln have dismissed the claims ruling Striker Lukas Podolski out of the club during the summer. The news came after the 1-1 draw against FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday, August 20, at RheinEnergieStadion. The striker, who earlier was stripped off the captain’s
armband, did not feature in the game.
The match ended on level terms leaving Koln reeling at the bottom of the table with just one point from three games.
The player has recently been linked with the Turkish outfit Galatasaray following reports of unrest at Koln. Podolski though has denied any such development, saying that he has no problems at the club. The 26-year-old was left out of the club’s previous
game against Kaiserslautern but the player seemed to have no problems with the manager’s decision. He expressed disappointment at yet another loss and urged his players not to lose heart. He was confident about his team’s recovery and vowed to achieve first
win of the season in the next league encounter.
Koln manager Stale Solbakken was confident about the player’s stay at the club. He believed that the German striker still has the required sting left in him and is an essential part of his team. The manager added that the striker complained about a slight
niggle while training prior to the game against the Billy Goats which forced him out of Saturday’s game.
While talking to a local newspaper, Solbakken added, "I have spoken on the phone with Luka twice over the weekend and he said nothing about Galatasaray. I get the impression that he will stay. He's not a player for Galatasaray but for a big club."
Koln sporting director Volker Finke also confirmed about the club’s intentions of retaining the Poland-born player. While talking to the local press, he concluded talks by saying, "I got a call three or four days ago from a broker who wanted to know if Podolski
was for sale. The conversation was very brief. I told him that we were keeping him, no ifs or buts."
Podolski scored his first goal of this year’s campaign in a 5-1 loss to Schalke in the second round of the league. The player is expected to revive his team’s fortunes in the club’s next game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 at Imtech Arena. The match will take place
on Saturday, August 27.
