Volkis O'Blue eager for strong comeback after long interval
Since finishing second in a Tipperary outing of April 19, Volkis O'Blue has been out of action. During this lengthy period, the Andrew Slattery trained grey gelding went through extensive drills to perk up his momentum and refine skills.
Now, the seven-year-old veteran horse is all ready to stage a strong comeback at Listowel where he is scheduled for Cashen Handicap Hurdle that will be held on Monday, September 17.
The French runner’s last victory came over a heavy surface. Thus, it will not be a big deal for him to deliver a convincing performance on the 2-mile heavy course while running alongside 13 rivals.
Slattery has left no stone unturned to prepare his pupil for this race perfectly. Hopefully, this exercise will lead the gelding well today.
Volkis O'Blue has two victories off 19 starts. He broke his maiden with the tile of www.tramore-racecourse.com Handicap Hurdle that went down at Tramore on December 31.
The son of Rochesson out of Glamosa went on to accomplish a grand victory in the 22-runner event of Hen Party Heaven At The Festival Handicap Hurdle, took place at Punchestown on February 22. That was a marvellous feat indeed.
Before turning to Tipperary, the brilliant sprinter finished as the runner-up in the Fegentri World Championship (Q.R.) Handicap Hurdle.
These stats show that Volkis O'Blue can be effective anywhere anytime. This race is going to be an acid test of his capabilities. The effort of the rider, Martin Ferris, will surely play a big part in the gelding’s performance.
Currently, all eyes are hinged on Slattery’s pupil as none of the other contestants is likely to be impressive enough in the race. Lady Samphire may finish second if runs confidently.
The David Kenneth Budds trained bay mare is winless despite 11 starts. However, she showed decent performances in her last two races. Both of the times, the Irish mare ran under Danny Mullins who will be on her back again today. Thus, she can create some
hurdles for Volkis O'Blue.
