Question:

Volkswagen Golf Speakers Question (Pics)?

Hey, I have a Volkswagen Golf. It's an N registration so I think that means 1996?

I recently bought an Alpine CD Reciever (CDE-988R), and the speakers fitted in the car currently are 2 crappy speakers set in the dashboard. And the front and back door speaker compartments seem to be empty.

I was recommended Alpine speakers by the bloke at Halfords who fitted my CD player. He said to keep the crappy dashboard ones for now, and put a pair of nice Alpines in the back doors, and when I want to, get rid of the two crappy front ones and put two nice ones in the front doors.

Can any of you tell me what exactly I should go for? I don't really know anything about In-Car Audio. I'm not even sure what size speaker to put in the door compartments.

  1. for starters i think you got poor advice, why?

because the front speakers are way more critical than the back ones, and because of that they should be replaced first. i would get a comp. set for the front, the woofers in the door and tweeters in the dash.

as for a brand, honestly it is all your own preference, there really is no right or wrong speaker brand, just what sounds good to you. Personally i do not like alpine speakers, but i own thier amps and love thier decks.

i would recomend that you listen to a few brands that consistantly get great reviews...such as

Polk , Boston, JL, Pioneer, infinity (kappas).

Usually with speakers (tweeters) there are some generlizations. softer materials sound more refined and accurate, but handle less power (materials like silk) harder materials can be harsher, but can really be cranked up (materials like aluminium, and titanium)

Take a look at www.crutchfield.com they offer tools to find what fits your car, and also have tons of reviews you can read.

    hope this was helpfull.
