Volkswagen not interested in entering Formula 1
The legendary car making company Volkswagen has clearly stated that they are not interested in entering the Formula 1 anytime soon along with one of its brands according to some reports generated by the German media.
Volkswagen has been evaluating the possibility of using the same route Porsche used to enter the Formula 1 and speculations suggest that it would leave Audi in the spotlight for its sportscar programme and Volkswagen will continue producing for Rally.
However, VW was interested at first in trying to make it in the Formula 1 and any move into the F1 arena was subject to discussions with the company’s board. According to a newspaper reporting, the company decided to quit its move of entering the sport as the
board executives decided not to push ahead with this plan.
The report in the newspaper also claimed that both Red Bull and McLaren were highly interested in this deal as they wanted to come up with a deal with Volkswagen about engine supply but the chairman of VW Ferdinand Piech decided that the VAG group is more
interested in its current commitments rather than some new aspirations that would leave the company in the middle and make things difficult for them.
This means that Volkswagen is going to continue with World Rally Championship alongside its rally raid programme while their rivals Audi and Porsche will continue their efforts and compete in the major sports car races like the Le Mans 24 hours series.
Formula 1 has been stuck with too many deals at the moment with so many new venues in the pipeline and there were rumours that another new team will be introduced to the Formula 1 grid a couple of months ago but these rumours were ruled out by the CEO of the
FIA Bernie Ecclestone. Since there are already 3 new teams on the grid and they are struggling to perform, another new team would make things even worse and Formula 1 has a standard to meet. Therefore, the sport is expected to continue with the same teams
in the 2011 seasons.
