In NFSHSA (junior high and high school) and NCAA (women's college) use games.  They use 3 out of 5 games for one match.  Some of the tournaments in high school use 2 games out of 3 games.  Some junior college tournaments also use 2 out of 3 games for 1 match in their tournaments.  

In FIVB international play and USAV club, they use the word set for game.  One match is either 2 sets out of 3 or 3 sets out of 5.  They do not use the word game.

Most games are 2 out of 3 games, but for some varsity teams, it is best 3 out of 5 games.  So, if team A wins game one and two, then you won't play a third game.  But if A wins game one and team B wins game two, then you will play a third game.  Same for 3 of 5 games.  the first team to win three games, wins the match.  I hope this makes since now

Volleyball is best of three MATCHES, now in highschool it is beat of five MATCHES. It sounds like the whole game would be called a match, but it really is just GAME!!! I still get confused.
