Volleyball Breaking News: Coronel resigns from the head coach position at George Washington
It is time to move on!
The 8th George Washington University head volleyball coach, Jojit Coronel resigned from his position yesterday (Friday, January 21, 2011) and accepted the new position of assistant coach at the Texas Tech. University in Lubbock, Texas. Coronel
served at the GW University Volleyball for solid 12 years. He put a lot of efforts to lead his team to success in a number of events. Under extremely difficult conditions, Coronel successfully kept his team focused on the targets and paved their way to triumph.
Moreover, Coronel worked out great progress through his extra-ordinary mind skills. He formulized great strategies and enabled GW squad to claim 176 victories under his command. He became the third-Winngest coach in the program history and grabbed many other
honours. In the 2010 season, the GW Team maintained 17-15 overall record and captured the 7th slot in the A-10 ranking. On the whole, Coronel was credited for his 176-153 win/loss ratio at GW. The GW volleyball qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournaments
for six times under the leadership of Coronel. They won A-10 title in 2000 and earned a berth in the NCCA Championship.
Coronel will now be paying his services at the Texas Tech. University. Officially, he will start work at the Tech on January 28.
However, Coronel remembered all the previous years spent with GW. He was much obliged for the support and cooperation of GW staff. However, he seemed excited about the new opportunity offered by Texas Tech. Coronel stated: "There are no words that can express
how much GW means to me and my family. We are sad to leave a place we have called home for over 12 years. However, we are excited about the opportunity that is ahead of us at Texas Tech. After careful deliberation, we feel that this move is the best decision
for our family.”
He further went on to say that they he’s extremely proud of what they've accomplished during the last 12 years and wanted to thank all the support staff, coaches and administrators for making every day at GW so enjoyable. Most importantly, he expressed his
gratitude to all the former and current student-athletes for allowing him to serve them.
“It's been a pleasure watching each of them develop into highly successful women of the highest character and integrity. There will always be a place in my heart for GW."
