Volleyball Breaking News: London 2012 Olympics will feature Britain's indoor volleyball teams
It is great news for Great Britain’s indoor volleyball teams that the British Olympic Association (BOA) has allowed the home teams to participate in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Previously they put a condition on teams that they could only enter the tournament
if they would be able to produce “a credible performance and meaningful legacy.” The British Volleyball ran out of funds in October, which minimized their chances to play in 2012 Olympics. However, the clouds of uncertainty are no more roaming around GB teams.
The decision has been made that indoor volleyball teams will appear on the scene. The information was disclosed by BOA’s Olympic Qualifying Standards Panel.
Lynee Beattie, the captain of GB women’s team was more than happy about the decision. She said that they have been preparing for the 2012 London Olympics for four years. It was their dream to stage a spectacular game in front of their fans. She confirmed
her team’s ambition to get full advantage of the opportunity. The GB women’s volleyball is charged up and ready for the rumble.
In fact, British Volleyball experienced a great set-back in the past few months. They withdrew all public funding from women’s volleyball teams on 1st October and planned to utilize the resources elsewhere. It was quite disappointing for the teams
but they couldn’t help the decision. It adversely affected their preparations for 2012 London Olympics. The men’s beach volleyball players went through the same hard phase. They lost all their funding in the same month but now they are back in business with
BOA’s decision. The chief executive of British Olympic Association, Andy Hunt called it positive move for the GB teams.
Somehow, there is another catch, normally in the other categories of the 2012 London Olympics, GB will automatically get slots for being the host nation but volleyball has a different set up. The volleyball teams will have to claim the places.
In the women’s section, GB team is ranked 64th in the world but they will get a great chance to improve their ranking in the 2012 London Olympics. GB Men’s Volleyball team placed at 89th position. BOA’s decision is very encouraging
and it will inspire the young aspiring volleyball stars to catch the limelight at home soil.
