Volleyball Europe: Dutch Volleyball Federation bid farewell to coach, Peter Blangé
The failing performance of Netherlands’ Men’s Volleyball Team in year 2010 forced the Dutch Volleyball Federation (NeVoBo) to make some major changes in the team line. After a careful analysis, the NeVoBo has decided to seek a new leadership for team. In
this regard, they have parted ways with the head coach, Peter Blange in the first place. The 1996 Olympic champion, Peter Blange performed his duties as the head coach of the Netherland’s team since 2006. He worked for the better status of Dutch team through
his vision and strategy. Nonetheless, the team failed to make any huge impact during the last few years.
The ‘oranjees’ exhibited a poor performance throughout the season 2010 and remained hugely unproductive. They missed the qualification for the 2010 FIVB World Championship in Italy. Moreover, they failed to qualify for 2011 EuroVolley in Austria and Czech
Republic. Right now, the federation is focusing on the upcoming 2012 London Olympics and the NeVoBo wants the Dutch team to book a slot for the event. That is why that they have decided to join the 2011 CEV European League, which will provide them a chance
to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
Now the appointment of new coach is the foremost priority of Dutch Volleyball Federation. That’s the only hope for them to regain their lost pride in the sport of volleyball. The NeVoBo has set new goals for individual players and the team as well.
Technical Director of the Dutch Federation, Mr. Bert Goedkoop is optimistic to get the team back on track in 2011. He said: “The potential of our national teams as well as of our youngsters is great. A well thought out but also realistic and fully supported
program will make sure that our men’s national team gradually returns back to the place where it belongs, namely to the international elite, but this takes time.”
Peter Blangé acknowledged the lack of consistency in team under his supervision. He wished good luck to team and expressed his views about the decision: “I am proud that I could contribute to the development that the national team and our players have been
going through. However, I am also partially responsible for the lack of satisfactory results. I am sorry that I could not finish my job but taking into consideration that the Federation has amended its plans for the next years, we agreed upon the right step.”
