Whats the best way to practice snaping the ball down without a net

  1. i hate doing this drill but it works, all you need is a tennis ball and a piece of chalk, string or tape.  place the string etc about ten feet infront of where you are standing, practice making an approach and swinging the ball between you and the line you made.  you have to make sure you are letting go at your highest point or the drill will not be effective.  trust me this drill is ALOT harder than it sounds, but it works mericales!

  2. Okay, we did this at a camp once and it really helped me improve on my contact and snapping straight through the ball.

    Hold the ball straight out in front of you in your left hand (if you are a righty), kind of like you were about to toss a serve.

    Now, pull your right arm back like you were going to hit.

    Swing your arm thru the ball and practice contacting it well and snapping your wrist.

    The ball should snap down and bounce pretty high. This exercise also helps you get on top of the ball. You know you're getting on top if the ball bounces really high :) But the key is to hold it about an arm's length away so you can still practice that snap, contact, and work on power.

    oh and you can do this anywhere. your house, against a wall, in the gym... wherever :)

  3. I just learned this yesterday. It really helped me out. Take a kneepad if you have one and if you dont just use somthing like it. Get on your knees and have a partner hold the kneepad up so you can barley reach it. Really try to reach up and flick your wrist this really really loosen it up. Your arm will get tired but just keep it up it will really help. You should have your arm straight up and hit your finger tips just on the botton of the kneepad. Make sure the kneepad is up high because high contact is the key to a good hitter and server. Good Luck!

  4. choose a target on a wall and spike the ball at it. Make a guess as to where the height of the net would be :)

  5. if you are near a wall that you can hit a volleyball at:

    1) just snap your wrist while hitting the volleyball on the floor w/ it (volleyball) hitting the wall and coming back to you... you will need to stand about 3-4 ft in front of the wall. you will do this several times and when you don't hit the floor and it just goes straight to the wall it means that you are not snapping your wrist.

    If not then get out in some open area and just throw the ball up about 10 ft and hit it as hard as you can... if you are able to get it in about a 5-8 ft range then that means you are definitely snapping your wrist fast/hard enough!! :-)

  7. This is what I do:

    1) Make a mark on the side of your house 7.4 feet high up

    2) Throw the ball hard against the wall higher then your head/net

    3) Jump up and hit the ball really hard against the wall (make sure it goes over the line you made, thats like the net)
