  1. It depends on your level and grade. I have just finished playing junior high level, and we can both over hand and under hand serve, but usually it's our coach that tells us, "Aurora, you're over hand serving" or "Elle, you're under serving today". The only good advice that I can give you, is to aim where you're trying to pass at. Hope this helps :]

  2. Well if you serve the easier way to hit it is underhand it will get higher and more further. Good ways to improve passing is to take sometime and a volleyball it hit the volleyball from your wrists up and down to yourself.

You'll become a pro in no time :]

  3. How do yout hit underhand?

  4. Pretty much you have to learn how to serve overhand. it'll give you more control over the direction of the ball and will allow you to get more power behind the ball.  Overall its more consitent and contributes to a higher level of play.

For passing "bumping" you always want to make sure that you pass the ball in the center of  your body with your feet poinitng in the direction that you want the ball.  The way that you position your arms is called your plank.  To create your plank you make a fist with your left hand (or your right whichever you prefer), then you wrap your other hand around the fist making sure that both of your thumbs are on top.  Your arms should be straight and the inseide of you elbows should be facing up. Now you just angle your arms so that your thumbs point to the floor.  And that is your plank.  Here's a tip, the closer that you get to the net, the higher your plank is going to be.  So if your really close to the net your plank is going to be straight out in front of you so that the ball goes straight up making it easier for the setter to get to.  Also never  swing your arms.  The power to pass the ball comes from you extending your legs and you should really shrug your shoulders with your chin down when you pass.  The only times that you give a little with your arms is if your taking it sideways or backwards in an emergency situation.  For passing its extremely important that your agile.  The faster that you can get to that spot that the ball is going to the better the chance of you making it a perfect pass.  So work on your footwork, really try to improve upon its speed.

For setting making sure your hands are at your forehead, they should form a triangle when you contact the ball.  Make sure that you extend your legs when setting and that you follow through with your hands.

  5. Some coaches won't put you on the team unless you can serve consistently overhand.

It might look hard, but once your taught properly its really easy!

Try setting against a wall with your hands about your forehead. If you have a lot of space, bounce the ball high up, a little in front of you and run to get under it.

Get a friend to toss it to you and try passing it back, then make a target so you aren't always passing straight ahead!

    Hope this helps!

  6. Serving mainly depends on how you feel and what your abilities are. I jump serve, but I've always been an overhander. Just practice because it takes time.

A great way to improve setting/passing is to find a large wal and set/bump it to yourself. It's effective, and trust me, it works.

  7. It is all legal to hit overhand or underhand, but some coaches won't let you join the team until you can consistently serve overhand.

To improve your passing and setting, you need to work on your footwork to make sure you can get into the position before proceeding with any other action. When passing you need to make sure that your elbows are up (it would help if you can make sure that your thumbs are pointing down), and you shrug your shoulders when contacting the ball. When setting you need to have all ten fingers contacting the ball (all-3-2-1-1/2) and extend your arms and legs when completing the set action.
