Volleyball News: Argentina win five-match friendly series against Canada
At this time of the year, NORCECA teams are busy in extensive practice sessions for the Final Four Volleyball Cup 2010 to be held at Chiapas in Mexico. The tournament is scheduled for 19th-26th September and teams from all over North America are trying to get in order for it. The Argentinean Women’s team is quite active in this regard.
Meanwhile, Canadian women’s volleyball team is preparing for the big competition, FIVB World Championship to be held in November this year in Japan. Argentina hosted a series of five friendly matches with Canada that started on Sunday. These matches were held in five different Argentinean cities which entertained the fans in a great way.
The purpose of these matches for Argentina was to get ready for the Final Four Volleyball Cup 2010 while for Canada the aim was to overcome their flaws and improve skill-set in anticipation for the FIVB World Championship. Argentinean team seemed to be in good form while advantage of local crowd also helped them. They successfully launched power to the visitor’s and finally won the series with a margin of 4-1.
First Match- Puan (30th August 2010)
Both teams played their first match on 30th August in the Buenos Aires province’s city of Puan. The Argentinean team seemed fully prepared to show-case good performance while Canadian team had also done its home work. Play started with an exchange of powerful shots and the hosts were able to build a lead finally finishing the set with a 25-16 win.
Canada answered in the second set and achieved success by posting 26-24. They repeated the same brilliant act in third set and took a lead by defeating Argentina. But somehow, the Argentineans made a strong come-back during the next set and leveled the game score 2-2 by winning fourth set. The match stretched to fifth set and finally the visitors managed to push Argentina behind and achieve match victory by capturing the 5th set.
Second Match- Coronel Dorrego (31st August 2010)
Coronel Dorrego hosted the second match with Argentina being all pumped up to take revenge. They stormed the opponents’ court with cracking shots. Canada couldn’t stand the heavy strike and collapsed after receiving a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, and 25-21) defeat in three straight sets.
Third Match- Olavarria (1st September 2010)
The Argentinean speed bombs didn’t stop and they earned another victory in the third match of the friendly series. Canada opened the match with good pace and pulled off the score at 27-25 to claim a set-win. But, the team couldn’t hold their spot in the next three sets. Argentina won the match with a deficit of one set. Emilce Sosa and Lucia Fresco played an important role in their team’s victory.
Fourth Match- Dolfo Gonzales Chaves (3rd September 2010)
Both teams took a day off on 2nd September and played their fourth match on the next day. The home girls demonstrated an incredible play ultimately bagging yet another victory in three straight sets. Argentina again pushed Canada behind by 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, and 25-21).
Fifth Match- General Belgrano (4th September 2010)
The friendly series concluded with another three-straight set victory for the hosts. Argentina had the competitive edge of three wins which boosted their energy to win the fifth match also. They claimed victory by posting 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, and 25-22).
