Volleyball News: Brazil stays on top in Pool C by defeating Korea 3-0

Brazil and South Korea staged a great fight on the volleyball courts on Sunday, August 7, as the two teams from Pool C gathered to play their third match of the first week. Korea was labelled as the host team, while Brazil was featured as the guest team.
The Korean city of Busan set up the field of play for a great match. Brazil simply cruised past the opponents and finished the game with final score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, and 25-22).
Korean ace, Kim Yeon-Koung, was named the top-scorer of the team as she helped her with 20 points. Brazilian top-gun, Sheilla Castro, registered 14 points and remained the top-scorer in the Brazilian team.
Brazil opened the game in their usual style and came up with strong serves. Danielle Lins hit the ball from different angles and created probelms for Korean team in the reception. Korean Kim Yeon-Koung also did a great job at the hitting the ball in right
spots and supported her team’s score. Meanwhile, Brazil used the strong offensive attack of Fabiana Claudino and Thaisa Menezes, which devastated the Korean defencive line. Brazil went up with a good margin of points and kept the same momentum until the set
points. Finally, Korea had to lose the first set by trailing behind with 8 points, 17-25.
Brazil managed to create a 8-point win in the first set. They started out well in the second set and tried to further put pressure on the Korean team. Korea was equipped with stupendous support of local fans. They raised their voices in the support of their
team and encouraged the team to return in the game. However, Korea’s bad ball-handling and reception errors were the real problem. Brazil led the scores and remained ahead of Korea. Anyhow, the hosts managed to tie the score at 19-all. It seemed as if Korea
would finish the second set with success but Brazil didn’t let it happen. Brazilian came up with heavy strike of volleys and once again pushed Korea behind. The second set also ended in Brazil’s favour at 25-20.
Third set was another fine display of a wonderful effort by the Brazilians. They attacked with full potential and didn’t allow opponents to stay in the way of their spikes. The score rose up quickly and Brazil announced match victory at the end of the third
set.
Post-match
Brazilian mentor, Ze Roberto, was pleased about the win against the host team Korea. He said he had already predicted that it was going to be a tough encounter with Korean team. They had the advantage of playing at home soil and applied great techniques.
However, the Brazilian players put up a better show of volleyball and managed to overcome the hosts. Roberto was greatly satisfied with his team’s performance.
Meanwhile, the captain of Brazil Fabiana Claudino stated: "I am very pleased to win the match against Korea. We were not stable at the beginning but we regained our pace. After our blocking and service worked well, we could work things out much easier."
Her Korean counterpart, Lee Sook-Ja, acknowledged the better position of the Brazilian team. She said her side struggled in the match but too many mistakes caused them major damage. Head coach Kim Hyung-Sil said his players need to improve on reception.
