Volleyball News: Brazilian head coach praises good work of Bruno Rezende
Bruno Rezende is the star setter of the Brazilian Men’s National Volleyball Team and is making waves at the 2011 FIVB World League. The Brazilian team has appeared in one match of the preliminary round and made clean sweep against Puerto Rico. The success
of the team was mainly due to the leadership of the 24-year-old skipper, Rezende, who also plays as the setter for the team. The head coach of the boys in green and yellow, Bernardinho Rezende, complimented everyone and especially praised the good work of
Bruno.
The interesting aspect of the news is that Bruno Rezende is the actual son of head coach Bernardinho Rezende. Bruno comes from a passionate volleyball family. Rezende was part of the Brazilian National Squad, which settled for silver at the 1984 Games. Besides
his father, his mother, Vera Mossa, also played volleyball. She represented Brazil in three editions of Olympic Games.
It has been two years since Bruno accepted the role of setter on the Brazilian team and has become the regular setter of the team since 2009. Brazil emerged as the top team of the men’s elite competitions including the FIVB World Championship and FIVB World
League, under the captaincy of Bruno. He played an instrumental part in leading his team to success last year and is still keeping the tradition alive. Brazil clinched success in their opening match and kept their dominance alive.
Following his team’s wonderful performance on Friday, the head coach Rezende expressed his views about Bruno and said, “It is true that we have won everything with him as the regular setter, but he is still learning and has a lot of space to continue improving.
We won many tournaments with our previous excellent setters, but with him on board we have won every tournament.”
Moreover, the coach acknowledged that Bruno has successfully given what the team required. He said, “We have many good setters in Brazil and Bruno and Marlon (who turns 34 next July) are now with us. Marlon Muraguti was sick last year during the World Championship
in Italy when Bruno carried a heavy load, but he is a very accurate setter with a lot of experience. We have a good combination.”
The Brazilian coach is eying the title of the 2011 FIVB World League and has Olympic ambitions for his team. Currently, the team is enjoying great form and seems fully prepared to keep up the same pace for upcoming games.
The on-going 2011 FIVB World League is another test of Bruno’s abilities. The Senior Rezende is optimistic that his team will defend the title for another year and march into the Olympics as the team to beat.
