Volleyball News: China’s Women’s Volleyball is keeping the semi-final hope alive
The 16th edition of the Women’s World Championship is slightly moving towards its end. The championship is almost done with the first two rounds and final round will be started on the weekend. Today (Wednesday- 10th November, 2010) is the last
day of second round and 8 matches are scheduled to be played among different squads.
In Pool E, China played the last match of second round against Peru and ousted them in straight sets. China clinched victory by posting 25-17, 25-22 and 25-21 in consecutive sets. China’s team performed better in the last match of second round but they couldn’t
give their best in rest of the matches. China finished the second round with an overall win/loss ratio of 2/4 and it is placed at 7th position. However, China has confirmed its ambition to play in 5-8 semi-final of the 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship
by winning this match. China’s team recorded its 11th win in 12 matches against Peru.
Match Summery
The match was opened with strong serves and superb shots from Peru. They scored early points and picked up a lead of 5-3 over China. In the meantime, China’s strikers put effort to chase the score. They added quick points and tied the score at 5-5. Afterwards,
Wang Yimei of China rolled off the ball in Peruvian half with great skill and kept on hitting with same momentum. The ball landed in perfect gaps and helped China to take lead in the game. The South-American team fell back and trailed behind with a margin
of 4 points (13-9). The captain girl of Peru, Leyla Chihuan was playing her last match in the Peruvian shirt and she wanted to make it a memorable performance. She attacked China’s defence line with convincing shots and narrowed the gap of points. The score
shifted to 14-11 with China’s lead.
Nonetheless, China’s spikers were simply on fire. They didn’t allow Peru’s team to stay on their feet. The tricky bump-passes and hits at lightning speed enabled China to stretch the difference of points to 25-17. Xue Ming and Wang played a vital role in
China’s victory in first set.
After dropping the first set, Peru came strong on China. They overcame the flaws in their player-line and struggled with new hope. Peruvian team was three points ahead of China before the first technical timeout (8-5). Jessenia Uceda of Peru produced strong
serves and hit point-scoring shots. Anyhow, China made a come-back in the game and broke Peruvian lead. They chased the score and surpassed Peru’s score after nice rallies.
Peruvian team fought back bravely and refused to take any pressure of the game. They managed to steal points from China and worked out 14-12 lead. On the other side of the net, China continued putting more effort and they took the score of 19-14 at the second
technical timeout. Peru achieved four consecutive points and followed China in score. Peru’s Uceda demonstrated her spike-skills and tied the score, which enticed the Peruvian fans to raise happy slogans. China took a lead once again and struggled to cover
the length of first set with better score. Peru’s team tried hard but couldn’t save the second set. China posted 25-22 and bagged another set victory.
The third set of the game started out in the same fashion. China lagged behind in the early phase of the game, while Peru built a lead of 8-7. Third set was a close fight and fans’ attention constantly shifted from one side to another. China attacked with
Wang and Juan Li, who helped China’s lead, who formed good combination to earn 25-21 victory for China in final set.
Top-scorers
China’s Wang Yimei shared the top-scorer’s position with her team-mate Ma Yunwen with 15 points. Likewise, the Peruvian captain girl helped her team’s score by adding valuable 13 points.
