Volleyball News: Czech Republic is eliminated from the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2010
The Women’s National Volleyball Team of Czech Republic lost their final match of second round to Thailand by receiving 1-3 (25–16 18–25 20–25 23–25). The match was played in the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan this afternoon (Wednesday- 10th
November, 2010). Thailand played with good tactics and showed Czech Republic a way to home. Thailand kept its hope alive to play in the 5-8 semi-final of FIVB Women’s World Championship 2010.
It was the first ever meeting of these two teams. Czech Republic’s team opened the match on a very good note. They created a very strong impression on the competitor side and displayed great effort. Thailand lost their previous match to Brazil and couldn’t
fully recover from the shock. They performed in a shaky way and gave way to Czech victory in first set.
The first set of the match was kicked off with long jump serves and nice floaters. Aneta Havlickova of Czech Republic did an amazing job on serving the ball at various lengths. She threw the ball from different angles and found the perfect gaps in Thailand’s
court to score points. The scoreboard showed an early lead of Czech Republic, while Thailand continued struggling to poise their feet in the game. Czechs were 4 points ahead of Thailand at the second technical timeout (16-12). Thailand’s Onuma Sittirak made
good attack attempts and worked for the stability of her team. However, Thailand failed to form a good combination to stop Czech Republic‘s score. They continued with success and secured the first set of the match with the help of 25-16. Helena Havelkova played
a vital role in the victory of Czech Republic in first set.
The warm-up session was over and Thailand started a serious strike in second set. They controlled their reception errors and came out of blues. They improved their passing on the court and strengthened their defence. Thailand was back in business and embarked
on an aggressive display of attacks. The game picked up pace and Thailand gradually became a tough nut to crack for Czech Republic. Sittirak took the game to another level and didn’t give Czech Republic’s blockers to stay in the way of her dominating hits.
Thailand made a great come-back and levelled the game score at 1-1 by winning the second set at 25-18.
The victory restored the confidence of Thailand’s players and they kept moving in the same direction. The team put a combined effort and formed a great chemistry. The offensive combination of Vilavan Apinyapong and Onuma Sittirak created trouble for Czech
Republic. Ivana Plchotova of Czech side threw her hands in air at almost every shot. She saved points for her team but Thailand’s hitters followed a different approach to dismantle her power. Thailand’s score shifted up with same pace and they paved their
way to success by hitting 25-20 in third set.
Thailand’s team was charged up with two consecutive set-victories. On the other hand, Czech Republic was under pressure and committed too many unforced mistakes. At the first technical timeout, the head coach Siller Jiri instructed the team and urged them
to keep a keen eye on the ball. The Czech players took the advice seriously and worked out better shots. Thailand trailed behind Czech Republic’s score with a margin of three points at the second technical timeout (13-16). It seemed as if Czech players would
create the possibility of another set but they failed to keep their momentum. Thailand hit back strongly and surged ahead with a score of 18-17. Thailand added quick points and closed the set at 25-23.
Top scorers
Wilavan Apinyapong of Thailand registered 20 points in 28 attack attempts. The other Thai hitter, Onuma Sittirak contributed 17 points, while Emorn Phanusit added 10 points.  Aneta Havlickova of Czech Republic settled for the top-scorer’s position by adding
match-high 23 points. Moreover, Helena Havelkova and Ivana Plachotova performed in a exquisite way and added 14 and 12 points respectively.
