Volleyball News: PGE Skr Belchatow settles for the final encounter of the 2010 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship
The FIVB Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship had an amazing run in the Doha, Qatar for the past few days. The tournament started out on December 15 with a group of 8 teams. Last year’s runner up team, PGE Skra Belchatow (BCH) was joined by three other
teams in the Pool A. This time around, the Poles entered the tournament with an ambition to crush everything in their way. The head coach, Jacek Nawrocki assembled a great team for this competition and put all his efforts to prepare the team to catch limelight
at the Club World Championship. The young-guns of PGE Skra Belchatow confirmed their ambition for victory via outstanding performance. They topped the Pool A ranking in first round of the tournament and clawed their way to the final showdown.
PGE Skra Belchatow was challenged by Argentinean club Drean Bolivar in the influential semi-final match on Monday, December 20. The Polish team outshined with a terrific performance in the semi-final and posted straight set victory over South American Champions
Drean Bolivar. PGE Skra Belchatow built a score of 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, and 25-15) and marched as winners in the first semi-final of the Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Match overview
The match was opened on a high note. Both sides were fully prepared for the bruising encounter. Drean Bolivar was in top form and they seemed confident with their victory in the previous match. They used De Cecco Luciano to serve the ball with precision.
He produced commanding serves and enabled his team to create a good impression in the game. Moreover, the top striker of Drean Bolivar Lucas Ocampo further empowered his team with spikes at lightning speed. On the other side, PGE Skra’s team had formulised
a great game plan for the day. They attacked with Mariusz Wlasly, which stunned the Argentinean squad with his amazing delivery of shots. The Polish hitter had tall stature and he was very active in his athletic shoes. Bartosz Kurek was another hotshot in
Poland’s team. He clipped many points via convincing under-hand shots. Kurek also did an amazing job at killing opponents’ spikes. He saved many points with solid blocking on the net. The game progressed with a narrow gap of points and no side was ready to
give up the fight. In the 28th minute, final whistle of referee announced PGE Skra’s victory in first set as they managed to overpower Drean Bolivar with a score of 27-25.
The first set victory defined the route for PGE Skra. Besides, they found the perfect rhythm and tone to take their score to high stake. Poles continued with their effort and successfully dragged rival side under-pressure. Drean Bolivar tried different attackers
but Kurek of PGE Skra proved a major hurdle for them. Drean Bolivar failed to chase the score and lost the second set with a margin of 6 points.
PGE Skra’s team was thrilled with the sense of victory. Their team work and dedication was very well paid off in the first two sets. They kept their dominance in the third set as well, whereas Drean Bolivar seemed hopeless and helpless in the hands of PGE
Skra. They could only help 15 points in third set but PGE Skra hit the mark and declared match victory.

The head coach of PGE Skra, Jacek Nawrocki stated: “I was really afraid of this game for two reasons. First of all, yesterday the Argentineans had played a fantastic game against Dynamo and secondly I really pay a lot of respect to Javier Weber and his way
of coaching. Drean Bolivar plays really the way we would always like to watch Volleyball, as they have a great defence, quick play and many different combinations in attack. The third set was the key of this game as we definitely demolished their resistance
in defence.”
