Volleyball News: Recap of five-set thriller between PGE Skra Belchatow and Paykan in Pool A
Poland’s PGE Skra Belchatow (BCH) beat Iranian Paykan (PAY) in Pool A of the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship, which is scheduled to run from December 15-21. The Polish ‘army’ posted 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-12) victory and clinched success
after a close fight with Iran’s Paykan. It was the first meeting between these two outstanding club teams.

First Set
The Iranian head coach, Peyman Akbari’s team started out well in the game. They opened the first set with powerful serves by Rahman Davoodi. In addition, he did a great job of scoring via his explosive hitting. The prolific delivery of aces and cut-shots
proved a great help for Iranian squad. They were able to make a good impression in the game with their sensible play in the early phase of the game. The good start provided them a base to build their lead in the game. Taking a look at the other side of the
net, Poland’s team was full of ambition to clinch success in their first match of the Club World Championship.
PGE Skra Blechatow attacked with skipper Wlazly Mariusz, who put his magic in the game and defended his team’s position very well. The player wearing No. 17 shirt, Mozdzonek Marcin turned many heads around with his brilliant blocking. He saved many of the
influential points and enabled his team to remain hand-in-hand with the competitors. Antiga Stephane of BCH was another wonderful striker, who proved his endeavour at throwing incredible spikes from odd angles.
No side was ready to give up. The score soared up with a narrow gap as both sides staged a spectacular game. The situation remained un-decided until the ending moments of first-set game. Ultimately, Paykan got the perfect opportunity to close the first set
in 28th minute with a smashing hit. The useful 2-point lead earned Paykan success in first set (26-24).
Second Set
PGE Skra Belchatow opened the second set with solid hits. They had grasped the game plan of Iranians and put up a valiant effort to hit the equalizer in second set. They found the rare gaps in Paykan’s half and directed the ball in target places. The ball
landed in Iran’s half most of the times, which raised Polish score. Kurek Bartosz of BCH enjoyed a great form and he came strong on the opponents. Polish squad displayed great effort and covered the deficit of first-set defeat. They managed to steal points
from Paykan and picked up lead in the game. They remained consistent in their approach and paved their way to second-set victory (25-21).
Third Set
Third set was another presentation of great game by PGE Skra Belchatow. The Polish team attained the ideal rhythm and tone in the game. They successfully drafted Paykan under pressure and hindered their performance. Paykan tried to come out of blues but
failed to stay in the way of Poland’s success. Iran’s team threw everything in attack but couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat in third set. BCH posted 25-22 over PAY in 27 minutes.
Fourth Set
Iran was deep down in trouble after slipping two consecutive sets from their hands. They brought in better substitutions in fourth set and struggled to break the tempo of Polish team. Paykan’s team outshined with Rahman Davoodi’s spikes. Besides, Keshavarzi
Arash killed many of BCH’s attack attempts. The protagonists were back in the game and they made a difference with 25-20 victory in fourth set.
Fifth Set
The score of 2-2 on the scoreboard created a great vibe in the game. The 15-point golden set started with smashing hits from both sides. PGE Skra Belchatow once again proved to be better side and dug up 15-12 success in final set of the game. The Polish
team claimed match victory in the Club World Championship opener.
