Volleyball Players/Coaches on Passing/Hitting?

I'm 14 and an experienced volleyball player. I'm a DS(mostly middle and right back) but really aspiring to be a hitter! I would love if someone has tips for me on better passing. (Something like, thumbs down, angling your platform, etc.) Also something happens when i hit, i'm about 5'5 but i can jump pretty high. i know my vertical and stuff, but whenever i go up to hit WITH A BALL, instead of left right left, i get distracted or something and my footwork gets all messed up.

Please only respond if you HAVE experience im a 100% dedicated Junior Olympic player and i don't want beginners, thanks!<3

  1. In order to get your footwork to gel, it helps to seperate it from the act of hitting until you get comfortable with it. By that I mean, make lots of half speed and full speed net approaches without a ball involved, so you develop the muscle memory to make your feet do the right thing. Another thing to remember is that the footwork is just a framework. Ideally the pass to setter will be just right right, the set is just right, and you have time to make a perfect approach. But as you know, it's not always that way... if you can get the basic footwork down, then learn to react to the play, you will become a deadly hitter.

  2. Passing:

    - Bend your legs

    - Get square in front of the ball

    - Put one hand in the other hands palm when the ball gets closer to you (both palms should be facing up)

    - Don't swing your arms up to pass the ball

    - Let the ball make contact on your arm between your elbows and wrists (forearm)

    - Straighten your legs and bring your arms up a little bit.

this will hurt and be weird at first, but after awhile you won't feel a thing and it will be like second nature to you.

    Setting:

Most important Get Under The Ball.

    - Bend your legs

    - Get under the ball

    - Make a triangular window with your index and thumbs

    - Let the ball sink into your hands and bend your elbows

    - Straighten your elbows and spread your hands apart

This is hopefully make the ball go when your want it to. It's tricky.

  3. Well, I've been passing for longer than you have been alive and the two biggest tips I can give are:

    1) Set your feet, no really. Stay on the ground with your feet still. Beat the ball there, any movement you have will just add another variable to passing and its hard enough.

    2) Keep your elbows straight. When you think they are straight enough go a bit further, you should be just short of hyper extending them. Let the ball hit your forearms and let it bounce off, simple as that.
