Volleyball Special Report: 2011 FIVB World ranking of Men’s Volleyball Teams
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has revised the world rankings of volleyball teams in 2011. The Sports Governing Authority of FIVB finally disclosed the decision on Monday, 17th January, 2011 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The new
rankings will be effective from now onward until the further revision in next season.
As a result of review, both gender teams have experienced some necessary changes in terms of standings. Some of the teams have moved up and some have lost their previous spots. The junior and Youth World ranking will probably be changed in the month of May.
The new rankings have been brought out due to the reduction of percentage points in continental tournaments (100 % to 50%). In addition, the 2008 Beijing Olympics has also affected the previous standings (75% to 50%).
In the men’s section, Brazil and Russia remain unchanged in the top two positions of FIVB World Ranking. Brazil has firmly held the top slot with maximum points, while Russia is one position down. At the end of 2010 season, USA was placed at No. 3 position
but the new order of ranking shows U.S. team at No. 5 position. Thanks to the American team which created a chance for Serbia to move to No. 3. Likewise, Cuba moved one step up in the chart and settled for fourth position.
Quite similarly, the reduction of weighting moved Poland from No. 9 to No. 10, while Germany benefitted from it and captured the No. 9 spot. Further down in the ranking, the Czech Republic’s team made a historic move. They climbed up to No. 17 from No. 23.
On the other hand, the Spanish team moved four places up from No. 24 and got hold of 20th slot. In the new world rankings, top 30 positions are as followed:
