Volleyball Special: the award ceremony of Serbia’s Olympic Committee
Quite recently, the news that the Serbian Olympic Committee arranged an award ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in Belgrade, Serbia was announced. The sole purpose of this ceremony was to honour the outstanding players of the Serbian National Volleyball
Teams. This includes players of both genders who represented Serbia at different platforms and earned a good reputation for the country in the 2010 season. The ceremony was held on Monday, December 20th, 2010.
In the 2010 season, the Men’s Volleyball Team of Serbia put up a great fight and showcased great teamwork. They outshone many with their bronze medal victory at both the 2010 FIVB World League and the FIVB Men’s World Championship 2010. The captain of the
men’s volleyball team, Nikola Grobic, was awarded the IOC Trophy as a token of appreciation for his hard work. Sadly though, Nikola couldn’t attend the ceremony, but his brother Vladimir Gribic showed up to collect the reward for him. In the absence of Nikola,
the team was represented by Milos Terzic.
The women’s team of Serbia had an amazing run in the year 2010 as well. They gave a great performance and proved themselves by capturing the CEV European League for the second time in a row and qualified for the 2011 FIVB Grand Prix. The Women’s team grabbed
the best team award at the ceremony. Sanja Malagurski and Sara Klisura received the award on the team’s behalf.
The Secretary General of the Serbian Volleyball Federation, Mr. Slobodan Milosevic expressed delight regarding their performance and appreciated their hard work. When talking about individual players and the team he said, “I am very satisfied, of course,
but I must add that Nikola Grbic is still a great player, and despite the rumours that this was the last time he played for us, it is up to him to decide and maybe he didn’t make up his mind yet, so I hope he remains with the team. This time our senior teams
were praised and awarded but our junior teams are second and third in Europe, our Youth Boys are the World Champions and our Youth Girls are World Vice-Champions, so I think that’s unique in this country and it must be mentioned. Volleyball in Serbia is very
much alive and all of our teams should be on that podium.”
