  1. I've played for 13 years...it's a great sport you should do it. All you need is regular gym clothes, good sneakers and knee pads. Basically you have 5 players on each team in a regular game. One team on each side of the net. Each side gets three contacts with the ball before it gets passed off to the next side. Usually it's bump, set and hit...you will see what those mean. Goal is to just get the ball to touch the ground on the other team's side within the game area.

  2. My advise is try to do some camps before if you cant that's too. When you go to your first practice or tryouts try really hard and try not to just socialize, focus on the game an the concepts. Try going to google and asking for basic volleyball rules if you absolutely have no idea to play.Good luck hope you have fun : D

  3. As far as equipment, all you really need to practice are shoes, kneepads, and a ball.  I suggest finding a clinic or camp or playing recreationally...I can't teach online, lol.  When I started, my dad taught me how to bump and then he just chucked balls at me for awhile so I could dig them up.  Find a friend who has played and get them to teach you some basics, and then practice with them.  Or, get a family member just to toss you a ball and set and bump it.  I suggest also simply getting in shape by doing sprints.

For setting, the way you position your hands iss put your hands on your hips.  Then without moving your fingers, put them above your forhead with your elbows pointing outward and your finegers forming a triangular shape (but not touching).  Look upwards and set the ball while stepping into it, and the follow through should be your arms unbent and straight with your palms facing outward.  Like I said, get a partner to help or you cans et against a wall or into a basketball hoop.

  4. You need knee pads, and depending on any ankle/wrist problems, you may need protectors.

  5. You NEED to attend some clinics or camps....because your not making the team with no experience. Play club ball...try the local YMCA or boy and girls club........you need to start like now.....otherwise your really going to be wasting time and energy. It's never to late to learn but your raw and need some good coaching.....most coaches want someone who at least knows the game or had potential if you don't the chance of making it are very slim.

As far as gear.....shorts a t shirt and decent sneakers.

  6. watch volleyball, read about volleyball, order books or videos or something offline. you need to be very physically fit.

when i play volleyball i always have my spandex, my shoes, kneepads, and of course my ankle braces. ankle braces are important...as well as kneepads.
