Question:

Volleyball Tryouts- how do I prepare?

I'm going into 9th grade and am trying out for our high school jv volleyball team. I went to a basics camp this summer, so I learned the basics on bumping, setting, and spiking. However, I'm a little concerned about not making the team because I've never really played on a team or in a league before. So, I really want to be as prepared as possible for tryouts in three weeks. What kinds of drills can I do on my own or with a friend so that I am as ready as possible?

  1. Well, first of all what you can do is you can practice serving, cause that is important, then you can practice bunting and setting by yourself. if you want to get good at hitting the ball when it is being hit towards you, then you do it with a friend, what is really complicated is when the ball is close to the floor and you have to go down low to get the ball.

what is also a good idea is when you have some free time, spend it jogging, sprinting, or doing sit ups or curl ups. eat your fruits and veggies, it will keep your body in shape. that is what i did before i went out for volley ball. it helped my arm muscles and leg muscles alot. so good luck!

  2. read some of this

YOU can make yourself stand out by knowing the general rules of the game, hustling, looking at the coach when they speak (with no talking), calling the ball "mine!" when you are going to pass it, encoraging your teammates, trying your hardest in every drill, and looking generally happy and coachable.

butttttttt. i would say just get a volleyball and carry it around bouncing off your hand and fist, to get an  idea of how the ball bonces and reacts. being familiar with the ball is a big thing. then practice hitting it. and passing it.

  3. Some schools have freshman volleyball.

  4. well i am an going into 8th grade and going to be on j.v last year i was 7th grade team captain but My advice is to pick your best strength whether its bumping setting or spiking and work at really good. and then on try outs flaunt that skill!!! o and 7th grade try outs were the first time i'd ever picked up a volleyball! good luck. And DONT be nervous at the tryouts that will TOTALLY s***w you up and you have GOT to have a GOOD serve! thats like almost manditory!

  5. what i do if im by myself is bump it to the wall and when it comes back to you bump it back to he wall again, also keep bumping the ball in the air and keep doing that while you move your feet so you know how it feels when the ball comes to you and make sure you move your feet. hmm when im with my friend/temate we bump the ball back and forth and once again (remember to move your feet if you have to) i hope i helped you, i mean thats what i do

  6. Basics is the most important as a first year tryout! The coaches will mostly look for potentials in freshmen. They wont be like oh if you can dig a ball and hit that ball like superman you wont be in the team! Just grab a friend who's trying out or any friend.... and then bump the ball the each other. After you get the hang of it, set to each other. After that you can PEPPER which is bump, set, and then spike. Also at tryouts, be really like LOUD! call the ball - "mine!" "I got it!" you have to be really enthusiastic. Coaches just LOVE that.
