My schools volleyball tryouts are on monday. I'm so nervous because last year was my first year and i'm not that good, i don't think I am going to make the team, but i'm staying positive. What do coaches usually look for during tryouts? Because I have a good attitude, and I'm not exactly horrible, i just need to know what they are looking for.

  1. My coach  was looking to see if you can set and make good passes and if you can serve, but all of the people who tried out made it. And there is one girl who cant serve for her life.

  2. My coach look for aggressive players who are willing to dive and get ball (but only dive if you have to cause a player on the floor is one less player who can pass cause they have to get up) Also practice you serve. Even if you do not have a good serve but you pass well, you might make the team!! Stay positive and good luck! Here are a few websites that might help:

  3. my coach this year looked for three things

    1) overall fitness--this is important because you need to be fit to be able to stay at your best level of the game.

    2) volleyball skills--if you don't have the skills you don't play simple as that.

    3) effort and attitude--these are useful in to see how you'll perform if you do well or if you do poorly in a game situation.

all three points are very important in playing volleyball. i hope i helped. (: and good luck. volleyball's really fun and i really enjoy it (: i hope you do too

  4. I've been talking to a varsity player because I have tryouts this month (they started yesterday). Coaches are looking for dedication, they want potential and people who will take directions and do their best to improve.

If you, and you say you do, have a good attitude, and you can do a few of the basics, but you always try to improve are up against a girl who has some experience but won't listen to the coach (won't call the ball when told to, etc.), it's more likely you'll be picked. Another thing is, always try to be a team player.

If you're trying to make the team, I would suggest giving it your all, even when your all isn't that much. The exception being though, is if you're jogging, then just pace yourself.

Volleyball is very much a team sport, if an older player, or even a newer player than yourself tries to give you advice say "Thank you. I will try that." and then really try to improve in that area.

    Hope that helps.
