Volleyball Update: Aalsmeer at the verge of hosting very first indoor Satellite tournament in history
The Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) has been kind enough to provide a great privilege to the Dutch country, the Netherlands to be the host of an exciting indoor beach volleyball campaign. The Dutch Volleyball Federation (NeVoBo) has also been
instrumental in setting up this amazing opportunity for the players. The Indoor CEV Challenger and Satellite Tournament will be held for the first time in history of Beach Volleyball. The city of Aalsmeer has been selected as the venue for this event, which
will be kicked off on January 4th and action will be continued till 9th January, 2011.
This indoor tournament has great features, which make it quite special. The victorious pairs will be awarded the FIVB rankings and it will be a great chance for the aspiring young players of European continent. The three-time European champions, Reinder
Nummerdor and Richard Schuil will also make their presence felt at the podium of Indoor Sports & Event Centre located in Aalsmeer. The other Dutch players are also getting their guns ready to showcase some extreme action.
The first indoor beach volleyball game was introduced at “Dutch Open Beach Volleyball Tournament” in 1996 but received a lukewarm response. After a fifteen-year time, the CEV in collaboration with FIVB and Dutch Volleyball Federation (NeVoBo) are giving
it another try in the form of official Indoor Satellite Tournament.
The tournament will follow the same pattern and Country Quota (CQ) matches will be played on the first-day. The CQ playoffs will be followed by the Qualification Tournament and Main-Draw competitions. The activity will be rounded off with the “final four”
matches on Sunday, 9th January, 2010. The prize money of 5,000 Euros will be offered to the winner of Indoor Satellite Tournament.
The President of CEV calls it a very positive move, which will set a new tradition in the game of beach volleyball. He expressed his views,
“This first indoor Satellite Tournament will give an impetus to European winter competitions, which will ensure that the European Beach Volleyball teams can test out their condition also during their preparations for the summer season as they vie for a
spot to be included in the starting field of the 2012 Olympics in London.”
