Volleyball Update: Argentina and Czech Republic take their seats in 9th and 10th positions of FIVB Championship
The fun-packed volleyball campaign, FIVB Men’s World Championship concluded final rankings on the weekend. The final round of championship filled up the first 12 spots. The influential final round completed its run in two days. It continued from 8-10th October,
2010 in Florence, the beautiful city of Italia.
9th Position Match
Teams from Argentina and Czech Republic fought to clinch the 9th spot in the rankings. The incredible competition was held at the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy on 9th October, 2010. Argentinean squad was headed by the talented
coach, Javier Weber, while Czech Republic’s team was supervised by head coach, Jan Svoboda. Both teams set their eyes on the ninth spot and exhibited great show.
Argentina vs. Czech Republic 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-21, and 25-22)
 Argentina secured victory in the 9th-place match after a spectacular performance. They influenced the Czechs with a delivery of ground-breaking spikes. Facundo Conte was the leading figure in Argentinean squad. He had mastered the skills to hit
the ball with a rocket speed and created enough damage to the enemy lines.
Opening Set
Argentina came up with superb offensive attack in first set and did a great job on defence. At the first technical timeout (TTO), they led the score with 8-5. Thanks to the captain, Facundo Conte who added consecutive points in Argentinean score and extended
the lead to 13-9. The star player of Czech Republic (CR), Jan Stokr defended his team’s position with powerful shots and perfect serves but Czechs lacked in the defence area. CR Team constantly kept chasing the score but they suffered bad ball reception, which
ultimately led them to loss of first set. Argentina finished the first set with a score of 25-22 with Rodrigo Quiroga’s unstoppable spike.
Second Set
The reaction was obvious from European team in the second set. The Czechs stepped up the gear and led the second set with 8-6 at the first TTO. Argentinean Pereryra attacked with front shots and tried to put pressure on the CR side. Popelka and Platenik
of Czech Republic dealt with the attack-attempts and proved their endeavour. The mood of the game changed in second set and up side went down. Argentina acknowledged set-defeat from Czech Republic after receiving 18-25.
Third Set
The point-to-point fight started in third set. Argentina threw everything in attack to re-build their lead in the game, whereas Czech Republic’s team was totally bummed out after victory in second set. The exchange of rapid shots was seen in the third set.
Argentina picked up a lead of 8-7 but Czechs didn’t let them stretch the gap of points. The game was tied at 15-15 by Popelka but Argentina put more effort to break this tie. They led the score to 22-19 and quickly jumped to the match point. Czech Republic
could only add two more points in their score but Argentina achieved the mark in 23rd minute of the third set. They posted 25-21 win over Czech Republic.  
Final Set
The ferocity in attack continued in fourth set. The Czech Republic’s team had to bounce back; otherwise, Argentina was in great position to kick them out. Moreover, the smell of victory put a new soul in Argentinean squad and they hit fantastic shots to
build an early lead of 8-5. Czechs were gradually dragged under pressure and they failed to catch up with Argentina’s speed. Rodrigo confirmed Argentinean triumph with some fine touches in the fourth set. Czech Republic collapsed and gave up the fight after
intense fight. Argentina won the set by 25-22 and grabbed the 9th slot in the world ranking. The losing side was forced to be contended with 10th position.
Top Scorers
Rodrigo Quiroga and Pereyra of Argentina shared the top-scorer spot with Jan Stokr of rival side with 16 points. Rodrigo incorporated 26 attack attempts, while Stokr achieved 16 points with 29 attacks. Likewise, Pereyra produced 28 attacks and contributed
valuable 16 points in the team-score.
