Volleyball Update: Fenerbahce appears as the new champion of Women’s Club World Championship

Fenerbahce, the Turkish Women’s Volleyball Club made their mark by winning the final battle against Brazilian Sollys Osasco on Tuesday, December 20, 2010. They managed to dismiss the tough rival in straight sets and claimed 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, and 25-17)
victory. The Al-Gharafa Sports Hall in Doha, Qatar recorded the incredible show of two top contenders of the Club World Championship 2010.  The women’s competitions were featured on the Club World Championship after 16 years break and Fenerbahce outshined
by capturing the top spot. The South American team of Sollys Osasco put up a great fight but failed to produce a match winning performance.
Match Overview
The Turks opened the match in a great style and got hold of the game in early minutes. The experienced Turk players demonstrated their skills on the court and dominated the opponents. They picked up a lead of 8-5 with prolific cut shots and tricky bump passes
of Fofao. The Brazilian squad responded in the same tone and threw everything in attack. They received the ball with firm hands and returned it to Fenerbahce with full power. The thrilling action of players forced the fans to stay on the toes. The completely
sold out arena echoed the happy slogans of spectators. In the meanwhile, Sollys Osasco continued with hard-hitting and equalled the score at 13-all. However, Turkey’s Skowronska came strong on Brazilian side and broke the tie with her unstoppable pipes. Sollys
Osasco’s team tried hard to claim first set but the luck was on Fenerbahce’s side. Turks finished the first set with 2-point lead at 25-23.
The second set of the game progressed in the similar fashion. Both teams exchanged long rallies and the ball stayed in the air for most of times. The see-saw battle continued up till the second technical timeout. Afterwards, Fenerbahce attacked with Skowronska
and took the game away from Sollys Osasco. The Brazilian team dragged under huge pressure and failed to put up with heavy strike of Turks. The charged up Fenerbahce’s team jumped on every little opportunity and grabbed success in second set as well. Brazil’s
team trailed behind with 3-point margin and slipped another set from their hands. The second set ended at 25-22, which created more chances of victory for Fenerbahce.
Third set was a ‘do or die’ situation for Osasco as they lost the opening two sets. The head coach of Sollys Osasco, Luizomar Moura instructed his players during the break. He pointed out their weak areas and urged them to play close attention to the ball.
The Brazilian squad made a great come back by following coach’s advice. They managed to take 4-point lead and showed intent to cover the deficit. Jacqueline worked out good points for her team. However, Fenerbahce’s didn’t take any pressure and paved its way
back in the game. Turkish ladies remained consistent in scoring points and regained the control in their hands. They managed to take lead at the second technical timeout. Sollys Osasco lost the momentum and went three points behind (13-16).
The head coach of Turkish team, Ze Roberto was satisfied with his players’ amazing comeback in the game. Fenerbahce’s team rocked the podium with their stellar performance and quickly moved to the set-point. Osasco’s players seemed hopeless and helpless.
They could add only reach the mark 17 after the second technical timeout, while Fenerbahce sealed the third set at 25-17. Victory kissed the feet of Turkish team as they clinched the biggest honour for them.  They settled for the crown of Women’s Club World
Championship 2010.
The last edition of Women Club World Championship was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1994. After a long break, Fenerbahce took the title by defeating Sollys Osasco.
