Volleyball Update: Iran’s overwhelming run in the Al-Rashid Int’l Men’s Volleyball Championship
Iran is one of the strong teams at the Al-Rashid International Volleyball Tournament, which is being held in United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 8-13 October, 2010. Out of the squad of six teams which includes India, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia and UAE,
Iran has been very consistent in capturing success. Iran is the only team that is unbeaten so far. Iran exhibited an incredible performance against India on Sunday, 10th October, 2010 and thrashed 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, and 25-20) victory on India.
The powerhouse Iran celebrated their consecutive victory in the championship.
The Iranian team enjoyed a great form after winning the Central Asian Men’s Championship, which happened recently in India and Iran successfully clinched the gold medal. Likewise, on the challenger side, Indians had the aroma of victory fresh in their minds
after beating their utmost rivals Pakistan in the earlier match on Saturday. Somehow, the Team India had to cope with the next big challenge of facing Iran.
India came strong on Iran in the first set. They created very strong impression in the beginning of set. Indian aces cruised past Iranian players’ legs and gave way to Indian lead of 8-3 at the first technical timeout. India continued with hard-hitting and
tried to push Iran behind the line. The Indian setter was very quick to float the ball in air and created good opportunities for hitters. The offensive combination worked out for India, they scored many points by lightening spikes, and bump passes.
India hindered Iran’s run and restricted their score to a low stake. Moreover, they maintained a gap of points and extended their lead to 16-9 at the second technical timeout. Afterwards, Iran opted for back-row attack and rallied back strongly. It brought
a positive change for Iranian team. They managed to stop increasing run of India and narrowed the difference of points with 13-17. Iran followed the same approach and surpassed Indian score in the next few minutes. Iranian team started the effort and didn’t
allow India to put pressure on them any longer. Iran clinched quick points and shocked India with first set victory at 25-22.
Indian team was in utter surprise as they had a good start in the first set but ultimately finished with a defeat. The sense of victory pushed Iran to make more progress by keeping the same momentum. The Iranian Mojtaba Shaban showed great courage and hit
powerful spikes. Iran led the game with a score of 13-10, while fired up Indian side tried hard to catch up with Iran’s score.
Indians paid more attention on the ball movement and attacked Iran with killing aces. They equalled the score at 15-15 and gave a hard time to Iran. After this, the score soared up with a close difference. Another tie came on 23 and uncertainty prevailed
on the whole scene. India was in desperate need to level the game-score, in order to survive. They worked harder but couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat in second set. Iran made its mark and earned 26-24 triumph over India.
The third set was “do or die” situation for India as Iran was totally shaped up to snatch another set from them. Rahman Davoodi of Iran stormed India’s court with electrifying serves. India played in third set under huge pressure. Iran was in commanding
position and Iranians further tightened the screws with the help of deadly spikes of Mojtaba. Iran picked up easy lead and continued on adding more points in score. India failed to put up with Iranian heavy strike and collapsed in the third set. Iran dismissed
India by sending 25-19 and claimed match victory.
India couldn’t break the winning streak of Iran in 12th Al-Rashid Int’l Men’s Championship. Iran is determined to keep up the same energy and get their hands on the title trophy.
