Volleyball Update: Russia and Czech Republic clinch victory in Pool I and Pool L of FIVB Championship, Italy
In the second round of FIVB Men’s World Championship, Russia and Czech Republic outplayed Egypt and United States respectively on Thursday, 30th September, 2010. Russia is placed in the Pool I along with two other teams from Egypt and Spain, while
Czech Republic is playing under the label of Pool L. Czech Republic is joined by United States and Cameron in the pool.
Russia vs. Egypt
Russian team played their first match of the second round against Egypt. Russia remained totally dominant and clean swept Egyptian team in three straight sets. They posted a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, and 25-18) win over Egypt and earned two points.
The first set of the match was a close call. Both teams were charged up as they returned to the game after a break of two days. They had made good use of their time and formulized their plans to dismantle opponent’s power. The witty coach of Russian team,
Daniele Bagnoli (Italy) set a clear direction for team to move in. The team followed coach’s instructions and displayed an impressive game. The long jump serves and electrifying spikes enabled them to build a lead. Mikhaylov Maxi of Russia availed every opportunity
to create trouble for Egypt’s team and hit the ball with the full strength of his arms.
Egyptians could hardly penetrate the fire-balls of Russian “army” and lagged behind in the scores’ run. Russia snatched first set victory by polling 25-21 and continued with success in second set. Russians had found the weak points in Egypt’s defence and
attacked the targeted areas. Nonetheless, Atia Rashad of Egypt defended his side by blocking Russian shots. He was too quick to jump on every ball that was floated in the air. Atia grabbed attention for his good defence. Somehow, Russia brought in Khtey Taras
to end the conflict in second set. Khtey hit convincing shots and helped Russia’s score to reach 25-17. This was how; they claimed another set’s victory over Egypt.
The hard-hitting continued in the third set, which was proved to be the final set. Russia was in strong position whereas Egypt suffered enough damage. The tone and rhythm of the game didn’t change in third set. Russia ruled the set with heavy strike. Finally,
they dismissed Egypt by creating 25-18 and declared victory.
Czech Republic vs. United States
In Pool L, Czech Republic subdues the tough contender United States. They got access to the success in three sets and claimed 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, and 25-22) victory over the U.S. team.
United States had an amazing run in the first round of the championship. They remained unbeaten and enjoyed the top spot. Anyhow, Czech Republic appeared as detractor for American team and broke their winning streak. The U.S. team opened the first set with
flawless serves. It seemed as if they were going to win the set but Czech Republic stood firm in the court. The team put up great fight and successfully captured the first set. Platenik Peter of Czech Republic was the centre of attention and main force behind
their attack. The first set ended in Czech Republic’s favour with a score of 25-19.
The U.S. team made good progress in the second set and avoided the ball-reception errors. The game came to an even point in second set but Stokr Jan of Czech Republic made a difference and built a lead. Despite of several attack attempts, the ball stayed
in U.S. court for most of times. Czech Republic captured another set (25-22).
Since Czech players had two sets in hand, they quickly reached the finish line in third set. The U.S. Team lost the final set after a close fight (25-22). The Czech Republicans celebrated first victory in the second round against USA.
