Volleyball Update: Selina Schirmer and Amanda Sedore clinch the big honour of 2010
The superb settler of Sutherland High School Volleyball Team, Selina Schirmer finished 2010 season on a successful note. She exhibited a great performance throughout the year and grabbed a lot of success. She settled for the “Player of the Year” award on
account of her great contribution to the overall growth of her team. Similarly, Amanda Sedore, the outside hitter (OH) of Webster Schroedor shared the same honour with Schirmer. She also demonstrated a stellar performance and proved her endeavour, playing
as outside hitter for her team. At the end of year 2010, Sedore was honoured with “Player of the Year” award.
It is only the second year that Schirmer has been playing as setter with Sutherland Volleyball team. In the short span of time, she got the knack of her job and quickly climbed up the stairs of fame. She proved to be great weapon for her team and clipped
victory at the Section V Class A. She also enabled her team to grab success at school’s first state championship.
The head coach of Selina’s team, Matt Glover seemed very much satisfied with Seline’s performance. He said,
“Last year Selina was raw and relied on her athleticism. This year she took that, along with her better understanding of the game, and became an elite player. She knew what buttons to push with her teammates.”
On the other hand, Sedore spent more years with her team than Schrimer. Sedore’s side couldn’t clinch the top slot in the past few years but 2010 season brought luck for them. Sedore played an instrumental role to bring the team back in business. Her explosive
hits allowed her team to work out championship win over Penfield. Webster Schroeder’s head coach, Shawn Strege admired the great work of Sedore. He said that she most deserved the “Player of the Year” award.
While complimenting each other, both players expressed their views. Sedore said,
“Shirmer will do anything to help hitter and because of that you want to put the ball away for her.”
Schrimer said of Sedore: “I think of all the hitters in our area, she has the most versatility to hit line shots, cut shots and if you think you know her tendencies, she’ll find another way. I know how much she loves the game and how much sectionals
meant to her.”
Both players have great plans for the future. They are hoping that 2011 will be a productive year for them.
