Volleyball Update: The action is going to get started in Japan
The 16th edition of the FIVB Women World Championship is finally here. The much awaited event of the year is scheduled to start today (Friday) October 29. All 24 participating teams have installed their bases in Japan and finally the time has
come to put them through a hard trial. Teams have been initially divided into four pools:

Pool A – Peru, Serbia, Japan, Poland, Algeria, Costa Rica Pool B – Brazil, Italy, Netherland, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, Kenya Pool C – United States, Cuba, Germany, Thailand, Croatia, Kazakhstan Pool D – Russia, China, South Korea, Turkey, Canada, Dominican Republic
The championship will be held in several cities of Japan. The city of Tokyo will be getting a lot of attention as it is scheduled to host the most important “final round” matches. Other than that, Hamamatsu, Osaka and Matsumoto will accommodate teams in
the first round, while the second round of the championship will cover its length in Nagoya and Tokyo. These five cities of Japan will witness 104 matches during the championship.
The first game of the championship will be played at 12:30 (local time) in Tokyo whereas Hamamatsu, Osaka and Matsumoto will also open the first-preliminary round matches at 13:30. The first round of the match will run from October 29 to November 3rd,
2010. At the end of first round, 8 teams will be eliminated from the squad and they will take their seats in the last eight spots in the ranking.
The second round of the championship will start with two pools of successful teams, which will continue till November 13th. Afterwards the championship will enter the final phase of the game where the influential “gold medal” match and classification round
matches for top positions will be staged.
The Russian Women’s National Volleyball Team will be defending the title this year. Currently they are steady at Number 7 in the overall world rankings. Russia captured the Women’s World Championship title in 2006. The Russian team is totally shaped up to
defend the title. They have spent enough time practicing over the past few months. The team recently played a friendly four-nation Edison Cup in Alasso, Italy. The Russian team captured the top-honour of the tournament and confirmed their ambition to perform
well in the FIVB Women’s World Championship.
Likewise, the powerhouse Brazil is also determined to push everyone behind and secure the top spot. Brazil are the Olympic champions and 2006 silver medallists. The Brazilian ladies proved themselves at the FIVB Grand Prix and finished in the second slot
earlier this year.
The United States’ team, which grabbed the FIVB Grand Prix Title this year, are all pumped-up to clinch the final victory. The U.S. team has the potential to keep their promise and finish at the podium once again. Anyhow, soon the action will start and the
better teams will rise above.
Keep your finger crossed!
