Volleyball Update: The failing-four of second round of the FIVB Women’s World Championship 2010
The FIVB Women’s World Championship is underway in Japan. The first two rounds of the championship have been covered so far. The campaign was kicked off on October 29th with a total of 24 teams from around the world. The fury of volleyball continued
and amazing performances were stages. At the end of first round of the championship, 8 teams were eliminated and they settled in the last 8 spots. The second round of the championship started out with remaining sixteen teams. Each team played four matches
in the second round. The successful teams paved their way to the final round of the tournament, while four teams got their return tickets on account of failing performance.
The following teams couldn’t succeed in the second round and eliminated from the squad:
Peru Czech Republic Thailand South Korea
The Peruvian squad
Peru’s team was placed in the Pool A of the FIVB Women’s World Championship. They opened the tournament with a straight sets victory against Algeria. Somehow, the team couldn’t perform well in the next three matches and suffered great damage. Thanks to Costa
Rica which paved a way for Peru to enter the second round of the championship. Peruvian ladies defeated Costa Rica in their final match of the first round. The team earned a slot in the Pool E of second round along with Russia, Japan, Serbia, Turkey, Poland,
China and South Korea. Peru couldn’t put up with the heavy strike of tough contenders and lost all their matches in second round. It promptly resulted in elimination of Peru from the championship. Peru is now settled in16th position of FIVB World
Championship ranking.
Czech Republic
The Czech Republic opened the championship under the tag of Pool D. Teams from Brazil, Netherlands, Italy, Puerto Rico and Kenya accompanied Czech Republic in the first round. They lost the first three matches in a row but managed to survive with two victories
in the last two matches. Czech Republic’s team defeated Italy and Kenya in first round, which enabled the team to play in the next round of the tournament. The Czech players tried hard for better status but failed to compete against better teams. Ultimately,
they joined the eliminated squad and settled in the 15th position.
Thailand
Thailand’s team entered the FIVB Women’s World Championship with big plans. They started the campaign in Pool C and played their first match against United States. Thailand lost the first match but managed to win against Kazakhstan and Croatian team in
the following two matches. That was what benefitted Thailand to play in the next round. Thailand finished the first round with a 2-3 win/loss ratio and captured a berth in Pool F.
Thailand saw tough competitors like Brazil, United States, Germany, Italy, Cuba and Netherlands in the second round. Thailand created a spark in second round by defeating Dutch team. They also managed to declare victory against Czech Republic but it was
not enough to capture a slot in the final round. Thailand was kicked out due to low performance. They are placed at 14th slot in the standings.
South Korea
The Women’s National Volleyball Team of South Korea displayed great game in the first round of the championship and won four matches. The team earned second slot in Pool D and qualified for second round of the championship without any difficulty. The South
Korean squad failed to save their reputation in the second round and lost three matches. They could only help one victory against Peru. Ultimately, they had to be content with the 13th spot in the ranking.
