Over the summer,I went to a lot of volleyball camps,I learned the right way to attack, and I was doing great. But,when my season rolled around,my coach wouldn't let me attack the way I was.He made me do it his way, which,in turn made me really bad and I never got set. So,I am working on it now,but I would like some help from some volleyball players...specifically attackers!!

  1. okay so were you doing a 2, 3, or 4 step approach???? wich one does your coach wan't you to do?? that happened to me with my serve and if you listen to your coach s/he probably is trying to help and knows  what their doing so try it out and practice practice practice... but things that should help you are 1. work on your timing, 2. practice you arm swing against a wall doing down swing returns, 3. do the footwork without a ball as many times as you can fast then slow, 4. ask your coach for help and ask her/him why you can't do it your way (only if your way actually works for you)

  2. it would help if you described what your coach wants you to do because there are many ways of attacking. i use a four step approach, right-left-right-left, when i can because it is more comfortable for me, and i feel i can get more power on the ball. if you are right handed (like me) your coach may be making you do a goofy approach (right-left-right). the only way a goofy approach works effectively, is if you learn to swing with your weak hand effectively (with some exceptions). one thing that could help you get set more is trying to just get the ball in for now. try taking some off your swing, and placing the ball in deep corners. try tipping right over the block, or deep line. get a feel for your approach. it will take some time, but work at it. also, talk to your coach and explain that his method isn't working, and ask if you can use your method. if he says no, just work on getting the ball in.

  3. I don't think it was fair for your coach to make you stop doing it your way. If it works, what's the big deal? As long as you're not doing it in a bad position to where you might hurt yourself (or others). I always had a tough time because I would always start with my left foot before I'd jump. If your coach gives you a hard time maybe you can practice with him and become more comfortable with his style.

  4. well, as you improve and move on to better teams you get different coaches with different ways for you to attack. every coach has their way, and most coaches have different ways than others. you just have to keep trying, andd become better at it and you will do fine.

  5. HI I play volleyball myself too. Its My passion. My dad is an attacker but over here its "spikers or kilelrs" but yeah same thing. the thing is to get it JUST right you have to concentrate. Dont have a "Your way" or your "Coaches way" it all depends on the moment. If its coming to your left use left hand. right- use right hand. Just focus on the moment and you ll get it right. If you dont overthink it during a practice or a game it expeccially helps. Hope this info helps.

  6. Your coach knows best. Well usually, but even if he doesn't who decides who gets to play :)? I have a similar problem where my coach told me I am "side arming" the ball. I was finally starting to slam the ball really hard, but I had to change it since my coach told me. I worked really hard to change it because you want the coach to know that you are flexible. Also if I didn't change it, I could end up blowing out my shoulder.
