Volleyball buzz, Brazil’s women’s club Sollys Osasco is up for the challenge in Doha
The 2010 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship is just about to start in a couple of days. The club teams all over the world are making their way to Doha, Qatar where the championship is scheduled to take place from 15th to 21st December.
Brazil’s Sollys Osasco is also on board to fight for title trophy. The South American Women’s Club champions are one of the favourite teams of the competition and are all up for the challenge.
They are scheduled to meet their arch rivals, Federbrau of Thailand, in Pool A openers. Later they will also put up with Turkey’s Fenerbrahce, which is also a very important match for them, in order to qualify for the second round.
The Brazilian side is equipped with some of the finest players of 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship, which recently completed its run in Japan. Adenizia, Camila Brait, Thaisa, Natalia and Jacqueline are included in the squad. These players played in Brazil’s National Volleyball Team and settled for second position at the World Championship last month.
In addition, the Brazilian team has the main weapon in the form of captain, Carol Albuquerque, who has tremendous power to meet tough challenges.
With this player-line, Sollys Osasco is hopeful to stage an outstanding performance and clinch the gold medal. If Sollys Osasco claws its way to success at the Club World Championship, they will be the third club from Brazil to reach this level.
In the past, Sadia Esporte Club of Sao Paulo grabbed the title in 1991, while Leite Moca Sao Paulo got hold of the title trophy in 1994. Now it is a fair opportunity for Sollys Osasco to follow the footsteps of their compatriots and get their hands on the gold-medal this year. It will be no easy task but players of Sollys Osasco seem determined to achieve the desired results.
The young star of Sollys Osasco, Natalia is full of ambition to grab the gold. She said:
"I never imagined being in the running for world selections and now a Club World Championship. I am very happy and hopefully can help the team as we try to win that title. We have won the Brazilian and South American titles. Now we have the Club World Championship and we're devoting ourselves and our training to bringing that trophy to Brazil".
