My daughter LOVES volleyball and we'd like to send her to a volleyball camp this summer somewhere in the Great Lakes area. (We live in Mich.) We've also considered a private volleyball coach. Do some players do that? Where can I find one?

  1. once she gets old enough to play in club, go for it. if shes old enough to play go into club right away. i think tryouts for club is over but next year go in before its too late... right now i would play on a rec. team and get a private coach.

  2. i would say probably a volleyball camp! They would be prob more fun.....and face it everyone loves to have fun while learning. Also she will be able to meet new people and working with other kids and seeing how they do stuff can help majorly! But i dont know where any are around where u live. Sorry! U could always check around ur area, ask around, or check online! hope i helped a little!

  3. Do both. The way I did it was, I took lessons from a private coach, and applied them and practiced them at camps. Good luck!

  4. both are good for their own reasons, but if I had to choose- it would be camp, because individual drills are only good when they come together as part of the team aspect.

  5. Camp is better if she is already playing.  Playing in a team environment is best considering the sport.  If we were talking about tennis I'd said go with a private coach.  She wont learn the game dynamic as well if using a private coach.  Camps are great for building skills, strengthening team bonds and overall play level.

  6. Volleyball camp!! In the camp she'll make new friends. Learn things the right way and the FUN way. She'll learn how to play a team if she's going to have a one on one session it wouldn't be as fun as in the camp. She'll be alone and it might affect her in playing as a team.

  7. you would definatly want a camp because then she can interact with others adn will get more of a social feel and get to scrimmage to.  send her to like a local colleges camp those are the best

  8. Check out this volleyball camp, madawaska volleyball camp @ madawaskavolleyballcamp.com.  It in Canada not to far from you, its overnight so the traveling is minimal and is very very good.

Personal trainer is good but you miss the team atmosphere, a trainer would be better used after she learns more of the game and can then be taught better technique of what she already knows.

    Godd luck

  9. WELL GOING TO A VOLLEYBALL IS A VERY GOOD IDEA. YOU GET TO INTERACT WITH OTHER VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS YOUR DAUGHTERS AGE , AND LEARN ABOUT PLAYING VOLLEYBALL AND IN A TEAM.

HAVING A PERSONAL COACH IS ALSO A VERY GOOD IDEA. THE PERSONAL COACH WILL HELP YOUR DAUGHTER  IMPROVE ON WHAT SHE NEEDS TO IMPROVE. HAVING ONE ON ONE TIME IS VERY GOOD WAY TO IMPROVE.

CHECK AT YOUR VOLLEYBALL CLUB TO SEE IF THEY OFFER PERSONAL TRAINERS OR RECOMMEND ANY PERSONAL TRAINERS FOR YOUR DUAGHTER.

  10. take the private coach so you can learn it faster and he can repeat it to you and not other students and he cant help u with anything.

  11. I loved volleyball camp. Well, I shouldn't say that. When I was at camp it was SO hard. The one I went to we did 3 3 hour sessions of volleyball every day for 5 days. I hated it when I was there, but I learned so much and improved my play greatly. Send her to a camp, but do plenty of research to see what is the best one.

  12. think about your daughter in this one.

if shes a super hard training person, i'd go w/ the personal trainer

but...if shes she friendly outgoing type, go with the camp

if shes kinda both do both!

i don't know but tell her good luck w/ the sport!

  13. Volleyball camp all the way, it will build on the basics of the game.  Camp will build friendships in and out of the game.  I have been playing for 12 years.   My 11 year old daughter went to Sonoma State volley ball day camp last summer. She came away with a great time.  She carried around a volleyball for like two weeks after trying to get anyone to bump the ball with her. Next year she will be old enough to play club ball, and can hardly wait.

  14. Try this link and go from there.

Go with a camp or school team first, then club. A private coach would show up automatically if she shows her dedication. She will be a Pro if she so loves volleyball.

My 11-year-old was in his new school's summer camp ('07), and the coach told me on day 3 that he would put my boy into 7th grader's team even he was just "incoming 6th". We just got offered to play in a U14 club team after a five-week clinic, but I am not sure whether I want to put him into club play right now... he might be a little too young to take those hit.
