ok so i am 13 and just moved here from a different state. i have been playing volleyball since 5th grade, and i would consider myself fairly good. i have strong overhand serves, i can bump, and this year on my vollyeball team i was one of te outside hitters and passers. i am not a pro at spiking, but i am trying out for my school team in a few weeks and a club team soon. i really want to make both teams, because i love volleyball so much and its such a fun and exciting game to play. do u have any intermediate tips to train for volleyball tryouts?? maybe some high school excircises?? anything would be greatly appreciated. thnx!! (:

PS-- i have a volleyball net in my backyard.

  1. well it sounds like your pretty well set for tryouts. it's so cool you have a net in you backyard!

ok, so a jump serve is like a hit, except your throwing it to yourself. so

-toss the ball with both hands (or one, doesn't matter) about 6-7 feet in front of you about 15 feet high.

    -practice getting your toss right

    - toss the ball, do an approach,  and hit it. it's not that hard. i tought myself

or you can go to a camp or clinic. that would be waay more helpful

  2. Well the volleyball net will help you tons! Practice  your approach, and then once you get that down, throw the ball in the air and spike it. I got a vball net a few months ago and i see a HUGE difference.

Im not sure what grade you are in, but if you are still in middle school and would want to play in high school, then ill give you a few things to practice so you can perfect them by that time.

Right now, you need to work on your verticle. Go to youtube and search increase verticle or plyometrics. Plyo helps your verticle jump amazingly!

Work your lil booty off 2. Stay in the best shape possible. And always stretch. You dont wanna hurt yourself.

I have to go to the gym right now, but add me on msn or email me and i will give you some workouts that i do in highschool and some other tips if you need them. I would love to help you!

  3. Varsity Coaches look for in a player:

    - Attitude

    - A killer overhand serve (jump serve is a plus)

    - Controlled bump/set

    - Know all the rules and stuff about volleyball

    - Attitude

    - Know what position you are good at and how to play it well

    - Know the bump, set, hit technique

    - Attitude

    How to jump serve:

    1) Throw the ball like 2-3 feet high in the air and like 1-2 feet in front of you with your dominant hand

    2) Take a few steps forward and jump and smack the ball as hard as you can with your dominant hand

    Practice at home:

    - Find an open wall on the side of your house

    - Make a mark 7.4 feet high on the wall and a line 30 feet back from the wall

    - Stand behind the 30 foot line and practice serving (overhand/jump)

    - Get closer to the wall and practice bumping/setting/spiking against the wall

*Make sure all balls hit the wall over the 7.4 foot mark you made (that is like the net on a volleyball court)
