  1. obviously good skill, but also teamwork, dedication, the passion for the sport, show understanding of how to play, team encouragement,  you listen to directions, cooperation, no complaining, and just do your best

  2. How well your volleyball skills are, your teamwork, your ability to pass the ball over the net...

  3. Heart, determination, skill, teamwork, and the drive to keep pushing longer and harder than everyone else. If you keep a good attitude and cheer on your teammates that always stands out to me. Attitude is a big part of the game. One bad apple can spoil the entire bunch.

  4. Lesee..ability to co-operate with your teammates (like not forgetting to call the ball and trusting them enough to bump, set, and spike), awareness and reaction time, and of course, speed, strength, and skill.

  5. talk, move, and want to be on the court. those are the 3 basics that my coaches tell us.

  6. team work, skill, awareness, speed...there are many things but believeing in yourself is always the number one thing!

  7. We have a 5 part tryout form that we evaluate players for tryouts:

    In no particular order:

    1. Student-athlete (we feel players are role models and role models should do well in school)

    2. Charecter (again role model, good attitude, good people, sportsmanship)

    3. Coachability (able to take direction from coaches in a positive way)

    4. Athletic ability (strength, jumping, court movement, etc.)

    5. Volleyball skills (serving, passing, hitting, blocking, setting, and court instinct).

We weigh each category equally when picking girls for the program (varsity and JV).

  8. Volleyball Coach....

Here is what I look for in a volleyball player.  Definitely a player has to have a moderate level of skills to play the game.  But, in some cases, putting a team together with 6 solid players can be tough.  When you have a combination of various skilled players, I look for those that mesh with, shall we say the better players.  Not very often do you have an All-Star line up.

I look for players who have the mind set to "execute", which leads to winning, rather than to "just play", which leads to not losing.

My - "GIMME 5"  (I ask my players this each season!)

    * Skill Level  (How they play the sport)

    * Teamwork (How well they work together)

    * Composure (Play to win, not to not lose)

    * Drive (Competitive toughness - The love of the game)

    * Post Court (Know it is just a game... handle winning, dealing with losing)

Hope this helps!  See ya on the court!
