Hey ok

so i have been playing volleyball for the past 4 years. i just got a new coach this year who is really big on height. I am sophomore (going on to junior year) and i am tired of being on JV. My Vertical jumps need big time help. What can i do to improve on it?? I cant go to any gyms over the summer to workout so it has to be something that i do at home or in my neighborhood.

thanks!

  1. i COMPLETELY feel ya!!!!

well do anything you can to strengthen your legsou could do calf raises or do alot of jumping repititions.

  2. THats fine. I have a team mate that is way short but she's awesome at playing.

  3. calf raised help a lot (go one your tippy toes like...a million times. lunges and squats help too.

  4. Hi,

You can actually double you vertical leap , using  Luke Lowrey a vertical leap expert guide , http://www.deals-guide.com/TheVerticalPr... , this guy grantees you will double your vertical leap

    Hope this helps

  5. Use ankle weights when you walk around the house.  Just light ones not super heavy ones, and practice jumping up on the net with the weights on and don't go full speed just jump along the net or at something that would be the height of the net and then jump on your tippy toes and the lunges and squats really do help.

  6. when i played club volleyball, one year i had a coach that was also big on high! the only way she would let me play is if i was in the back row playing ds or if i was the libero. in my case i did go to alot of personal training jump sessions but after looking at this web site http://www.strengthcats.com/JDfabulous15... i realize that i probably could have just done it at home! anyways it really helps and lets just say i do not play the back row anymore!

  7. Well..

If it at home i would have to say jump rope..just keep jumping up and down. high as you and long as you can ..put some weight on your ankles(they have it i dont know what it called) and keep doing that pretty soon you should be able to be a better jumper..cause you practice with weigh when you have no it will make you go higher than you jumped..and practice the 1 2 3 spike jump too..

  8. Check onto ACVA.ORG and see what tutorials you can have your family buy to hone the skills you'll need to be a good volleyball player. The defensive specialist and setters on a volleyball team can be a person of less height than the typical front court players and as important to the team.

There are all kinds of books and videos that you can check out of your local libraries or if you want your own... to buy from online and local bookstores that address the fundamentals for all of the playing positions.

A lot of the skills you will need are expressed in ways so that you can practice on your own should other players not be available to practice with you over the course of a summer.

The key to getting better is to have the heart to want to and the perseverance to keep practicing and getting better. Then, when the school season comes around....you can amaze the coaches with your newly developed talents.

  9. You should try going into the pool.  Get about chest deep in the water.  Crouch down and jump.  Over and over again.  The water will act as your resistance and will cushion your landing.  Your knees and ankles will not get the pounding of working on your jump on dry land.

  10. Wall jumps and wall sits, and calf raises could also help

  11. jump rope, seriously...jump going corner to corner of a square in different patterns...jump on both legs, then switch to one leg at a time...

  12. If theres girls on the team taller than you, they might win the spot. Try passing or be a libero or DS. But for jumping do hang statches and hang cleans with a stomp.

  13. their are many things you can do to improve your vertical jump, there is squats, calf raises, lunges. but, what i found that works best for me are 2 things: either going to the beach or somewhere sandy and working out, or just jumping. the resistance of the sand makes for a great leg workout, and constant jumping strengthens your legs to do exactly that, jump higher. It also helps if you practice your form for hitting and blocking while you do this. 2 for the price of one. ;-)

  14. its not really about ur height its how high u jump if ur coach sees that u jump high then she wont make it a big deal

  15. pick a wall. put a line of tape on it. [above your head, about 6 inches prolly] jump till you reach it.

jump for it evryday for 10 mins, over and over again, until u can touch the line.

  16. well if you have a volleyball net in your backyard then you can just keep practicing and if that doesn't help build up your leg muscles, jump roping helped me the most.

  17. I play volleyball and I am the main attacker on my team.So given I need to jump high. I put a goal on a wall like start at 5 ft 5 in. and if when you jump you hit it raise it by 1 inch. If you can't reach it keep on jumping until you do.This is how I learned to jump my highest and I still do it

  18. well i'm a senior and i've been playing for 6 years, i'm 5'2'' so i'm not exactly the tallest person on the team...to improve your ups you could try calf raises, jump roping, wall sits, and wall jumps

  19. What you need to do is really work on your legs...some "easy, do-it-yourself" exercises could include wall jumps, jump roping (trying to jump HIGH, not just over the rope)...from what i saw you had a lot of answers, so perhaps try all of the ideas, see what works best, or which exercises show the most results..also, try switching up your routine so you don't get bored...for example, do wall jumps one day, and something else the next. Good luck!

  20. you can try working out with ankle weights.

  21. hi you can wear ankle weights as you walk everywhere. i recommend using them on stairs.  also squat against the wall with your legs are right in line with your shoulder and put your hands straight out hold for two plus minutes at a time.
