Question:

Volleyball help!! How can I help this girl . . .?

My team is losing our best player and I'm trying to make up for losing her. Right now I think my best shot is to get this one player better . . .

This other girl is 5'5 and the tallest girl on our team; she'll only be a sophomore next year, though. She's good at sports in general and has been playing volleyball for a while. Not the longest possible time, because she's seems more into basketball . . . her mom's a basketball coach. She has a pretty good serve and is becoming a decent blocker, and can hit SUPER hard - all when she's in a good mood.

I need advice for ways to fix these problems:

a) She's kind of a snob, because she's really good at sports. She's got ace mentality, but she's not our ace yet . . .

b) She can only hit balls set in a specific area, otherwise she can't even put it over the net. She can't tip, and do general netplay.

c) She has SERIOUS mood swings . . . she goes up and down, and her moods are infectious both ways.

Please help me! Any advice will help!

  1. ya dont treat her different because if she's a snob, has mood swings and is inconsistent....you have to work as a team player in volleyball and she really doesnt seem like a team player

  2. Don't cater to her or treat her any differently than anyone else.  Some people act like that because people put up with it.  Attitude problems can usually be run out of a person and in a short time once they know you mean buissness.  If not than a bad attitude will affect the whole team and you would be better of without her.  As for the hitting balls to a specific spot I struggle with that too with my serving and I had one of my friends go to the court with me and move to different spots and I tried to serve to him and it helped bc I didn't have to chase balls and I had him watch my form to make sure I didn't change my form to change the spot I was hitting to.
