Next season for volleyball i will be a junior. I have played on junior varsity instead of varsity both years of my high school career. My sophomore year i played as the libero for jv and did pretty good. I work really hard and push myself. This year for the first time we are having tryouts for volleyball and only 8 girls will make each team. im only 5 '1" and 1/2 and our coach likes height and plays favorite plus i know of 8 girls that are better than me. i know im better than playing junior varsity as a junior but im pretty sure my coach doesnt like me enough to put me on varsity. i have a good paying job that i could also do if i decide not to play volleyball? what should i do?

  1. work extremly hard and push yourself..

    my story

i'm not the skinnest or fattest girl out there

but when i went to tryout for my school team nobody thought i would make it

and it was my first year so...

but i worked hard and i made the team and by the end of the season i got coaches award [it's mvp but your teammates dont vote for you your coaches vote for you] and then i ended up trying out for one of the most prestigious junior olympic volleyball teams in my state and i made it. he told me he picked me to be on his team b/c i worked hard and showed a lot of effort and improvment. and our team ended up being number 7 in the entire southeren region

so all i have to say is...prove everyone wrong..work hard practice hard and you'll be happy that you did

  2. Try out for Varsity.  Work hard to impress your coach.  Show your enthusiasm on the court and encourage the other players.  Communicate well and most importantly play well.  See how it goes and then make your decision about working vs. playing vball.

  3. u should play volleyball be a suck up to the coach if he has any camps or anything go work out and keep working out

  4. try out for the varsity team.  the HS game isn't always about height (even though it helps)  It's more about team work.  If you played libero for JV, you should be able to transition to the varisty team.  The 8 players might be better than you, but that won't make a team.  how do you know if the 8 players aren't just hitters.  Hitters can't hit if there's no setter.  setter can't set if there are no passes.  take it from me (I set) and I would trade one or 2 big hitters for one great passer.

Besides, if you tryout and don't make the team, you then can go work after school.  good luck

  5. Go with the good paying job....buy yourself nice things and enjoy high school....Your coach seems to be interested in height rather then skill which means you wont make it...and its not for a lack of hard work or skill....it's because your 5'1.......I am 5'9 and had a 35inch vertical I played varsity for my high school....played college and for the Us Navy and realized that If I had been taller I could have played in Europe So to be honest and it might hurt.....take the job.....make money and when you have kids teach them well and live your life.

  6. Height is for blocking and hitting. Use being short to your advantage. If you work hard, libero could be the spot for you. not many tall girls have the speed that a shorter person has.

I say go for it and give it your best!

    GOOD LUCK!!!!
