  1. Down the line shots:

    - I'm not really sure by what you mean, getting those down the line shots?  Is it because you're passing them out of the court?  Or because of your positioning?  If it's because of your passing, it's probably because when you moved toward the line, your hips are still facing out of the court.  Make sure when they're hitting line, take a big step with your right leg (assuming you're playing middle back, them hitting left side) and rotate your hips before you pass. (Try the rolling dive).

    Drills to shuffle/move faster:

    - Try any drills that make you low to the ground.

    - One drill I did in high school was very hard, but it made you work, made you low to the ground, and fast.  If you have access to a volleyball court, use it.  Get a friend, coach, or parent to stand at the net with a basket full of balls.  You stand in the back middle of the court.  The person at the net starts rolling balls (fast, slow, deep, short) on the court (one ball right after the other).  Your job is to run and touch the ball before it goes out of the court.  Try to get 5-10 balls (pick a number), then stop.  If you let a ball go out of the court without touching it, you -1 ball from your count.  It gets hard after about a minute, and the slower you are after that, the harder to get to the balls, making you miss more balls, making you have to touch more to end the drill.  I almost puked after this drill :)

    - Practice your split step.

    - Practice your diving (although a good libero stays on their feet as much as possible)

Please watch your ankles and knees when doing fast-moving jerking motioned drills!  You don't want to get injured! Try to not rotate your knees and ankles much when switching directions :)

  2. Ohh! You found the right person! lol I am a Libero, always have been!

When you are against a really strong hitter and the ball goes right to you it's all up to you. Once you do it a couple of times it will be perfect. This is what you do:

    1) Bend your legs a lot

    2) Put your arms in a bumping position (since all the balls that will spiked to you will be close to the ground, if they are above your head or you have to set for them, they will most likely be out of bounds)

    3) Get ready to dig the ball if you have to have to

    4) Make contact with the ball right between your wrists and elbows

    5) Make sure you are aiming for your setter (where ever she is at the time)

    - It will hurt your forearms the first couple of times you do it, but you will get used to it and it wont hurt. Also, after 30 seconds that sting goes away.

    Good luck.

This is how I practice sometimes:

Someone stands on a chair right in front of the net on the opposite side and you are in your back row position. The other person throws or hits the ball as hard as they can to you (or away from you to make your hustle and get it). You gotta be ready and just bump it up to the place where the setter wouldbe if you had one.

  3. I'm a varsity starting middle hitter and what our coach tells us is that 80% of volleyball is EMOTION. Have comfidence that you can do it-you can get those super low, super hard  digs.....i know it's hard to switch positions in the middle of high school...i know because i was a setter my freshman year and my sophmore year i was switched into a middle hitter...and last year i became a starting middle hitter...i had confidence in myself...i worked with middle hitters after practice...went to v-ball camps.....so just have confidence in yourself...i know it sound chessey in all but it works....

YOU CAN DO IT GIRLY....you rock

  4. well my bro plays baseball, so he's got a good arm. so he throws the ball wherever im not. and i have to dig it up. like sometimes he throws it short or far left, or whatever.

but thats helped me hustle and ive improved!

  5. Two years ago, I was one of the worst v-ball plays in my school.  Last year, I was named libero.  Amazing???  All you need to do is practice.  Have you ever done a wall sit???  You could do that without a wall.  Have you best hitter (not you) hit the v-ball hard toward you and try to hit it back to her/him.  Do you play basketball???  If you do, you can practice sliding like what you do on defense. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, ask someone who does.)  Slide back and forth from one base to another for a while.  Be sure you look like your "sitting."
