Volleyball help?

i need tips on volleyball...

i'm going into JV next year,

and i havent even mastered my serve!

please help with serving and hitting.

  1. Honestly, If you are going to try out for JV, its mandatory to have your serve down. The best thing to do is to enroll in a camp that teaches basics. Look around in your city or ask your future coach for any reccomendations on programs you can join over the summer. Going to camp helped me to improve SO much. Also, you can work on being in great shape by running over the summer. By the time the season starts, you will be in GREAT shape and can focus more on working on your skill and not having to worry about getting back in shape again.

First of all, you will need to strengthen you arms and shoulders.  Girls usually don't have alot of upper body strength, so it is very important to start doing push-ups and lifting light weights.  Find a wall, in a gym, in a racquet ball room, hand ball court and start serving over and over.  Learning any new skill is about repetition and training the right muscles too. Remember to keep your stomach muscles relatively tight.  Serving is not just about your arms, but also the strength of your whole upper body.  When you are nervous or a bit weak, always aim for the middle- back of the court.   Aiming for a further distance helps to get your focus off of the net and helps you to get it in the court.  Hit the ball with the flat palm of your hand to hit a floating serve and slightling wrap your fingers around the ball if you want to create spin.  But remember if you are going to put spin on the ball you must contact the ball higher in the air when  you toss it.

  3. If ur talking bout overhand serves then all i can say is:

    Use all ur upper body strength, and follow through by throwing the ball up, and stepping IN2 ur serve releasing ur energy, rite b-4 u hit the ball; wen u "Step IN2 IT" dat meanz taking one step 4wrd with ur rite or left depending on wat arm u srv with and use this to help maneuver ur bod and buil up the energy u need to srv it good=)  .....

    As far as hitting/Bumping the ball, just make sure 2 always move ur feet...use ur legs coz dats wat gives u ur power NOT ur arms, and RUN 4 the ball (playing ur area of course) nevr wait on it=DAnd if u set, just make sure its high enuff for ur teammate 2 buy time and save up energy b-4 she spikes!

  4. Well, for JV highschool teams you definatly need to be able to serve over hand effectively!

    Just practice.

    You want to throw the ball a few feet above you head with your non-dominant hand, then hit the ball really hard right in the middle of the ball, almost wrapping your hand around the ball.

    Same with hitting except you don't wrap the hand around.
