so i havent played volleyball since highschool and now im 25, and i go to this really great gym, they are having volleyball pickup and i would like to play, however i have no clue how...:)

\I went and watched last week and it looks easy enough, and all the girls were wearing these tiny lil compression shorts and t-shirts and kneee pads....so i went out and bought these shorts and am getting the knee pads today... Is this the average uniform for volleyball players? can anyone give me any pointers, the players i saw last week were pretty rude and didnt rotate out, so nobody got a chance to try.

I am going early with some friends so that we can get there before everyone and try to practice?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

  1. Nobody says younger players can't help older ones.

    Ok here's the deal:

~spandex, very good. if you wear cheer shorts, and it is serious... lets just say ridicule.

    ~kneepads are a MUST

~long socks, like soccer socks but thinner and end right below the knee

~usually you wear a t-shirt to practice but a stretch for tournaments

~volleyball girls can be...harsh, you just have to hold yourself confidently and play with that same air. they will accept you.

~best advice, don't let skill level hold you down. play with a positive attitude and when you miss the ball or shank it just accept it as something that happens to anybody and come back with a smile.

    Hope it helps:)

  2. Generally the uniform, for practice consists of Long socks, knee pads, spandex shorts and a T shirt. Nothing tooo difficult..

Volleyball's a tough sport! good luck

  3. i have been playing since i was 5.....

spandex(those compression shorts)... knee pads.... high socks are cute with it too......  and for shoes... there are specific Miszuno shoes... with like arch supports and spring activators in it.....

make a fist then wrap your other hang around your knucles.... then make a flat surface with your forearms by pushing your hands in the way of the floor..... dont swing your arms when u hit the ball... just let it bounce off... if they hit hard enough then the force of the ball will just kind of work itself off your arms......make sure knees are slightly bent and shoulder width apart....

let me know if you have any other questions.
