Volleyball latest: CAVB announces the dates of 2011 Women’s African Club Championship
Quite recently, the Confederation African de Volleyball (CAVB) has announced the schedule of 2011 Women’s African Club Championship. The Kenyan City of Kasarani will be the host of this activity, which will provide a chance to African players to demonstrate
their talent in the court. The championship will be kicked off on March 30 and it will complete its run on April 10. The decision was officially unveiled on the evening of Wednesday, January 19 at the head-quarters of CAVB in Cairo, Egypt.
The tournament was a great success in the last two seasons as it attracted some of the best teams to the podium. The 2009 and 2010 editions of the Women’s African Club Championship featured the women’s teams from all over the African continent. This time
around, the CAVB is hopeful for the same response from athletes and spectators that they will make it a successful event. The winners of the championship will be awarded with ticket to the 2011 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Doha, Qatar. Last year,
Kenya Prisons defeated Kenya Pipelines in the all-Kenyan final showdown of African Club World Championship. Kenya Prison proved to be too good for victory and earned the rights to represent Africa at the 2010 Women’s Club World Championship. So this is of
extreme importance for teams to exhibit a convincing game and reserve berth in the Club World Championship.
The home team of Kenya Prisons is among the pre-favourites of the championship. The Kenya Prisons appeared in the 2010 Club World Championship and stood under the flag of Africa. They put up a great fight and settled for fifth position. Nevertheless, the
team performed amazingly well at the national level and dug up success in many of the national campaigns. Kenya Prisons will surely serve as the top contender of the 2011 African Club World Championship.
On the other hand, the Kenya Pipelines is also working hard to showcase a prolific game. They clinched silver-ware at the 2010 African Club Championship and are determined to give out a better performance this time. Kenya Pipelines also settled for bronze-medal
victory in Mauritius, KC Bank in 2010. The clock is slightly ticking down and teams are preparing for the big competition. Let’s see who takes away the crown.
