Volleyball latest: Revised ranking of volleyball teams in 2011
The Sports Governing Authority of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) disclosed the revised ranking of volleyball teams for 2011 on Monday, January 17, 2011. The decrease in percentage points in the continental championships have resulted in the new ranking of teams.
Men’s division
The change in ranking promptly benefitted men’s teams from Serbia and Cuba as they moved one step up in the ranking. Serbia has now been placed at No.3, while Caribbean team of Cuba will be tagged as the No. 4 team in the world from now onward. Russia will follow them in fifth spot accordingly. Nonetheless, the top two slots are not affected by modification of points. Brazil and Russia will remain in the same slots: NO.1 and No.2 respectively. Since Serbia has been promoted to No. 3, the reduction in weighting has caused USA to move to No. 5. The Polish team finished the 2010 season in No. 9 slot but the revised ranking of FIVB put them in No. 10 position. Germany will be the new No. 9 in the world ranking.
The new rankings have given a big boom to Czech Republic’s team as they have been risen from No. 23 to No. 17, which is great achievement for them as the team never came up to this level before. On contrary, Spain slipped from the 20th spot and moved down to 24th position in 2011 ranking.
Women’s section
In the women’s category, top three slots are firmly occupied by Brazil, USA and Japan respectively. The new formula of ranking didn’t cause any change for them. Cuban Women’s team is repositioned at No. 8 from No. 7, while Poland captured Cuba’s slot. Quite similarly, the Dutch team dropped one spot duo the revised ranking.
Junior and Youth World Rankings
Following the same formula, the FIVB Junior and Youth World Ranking will also experience slight changes. It will be treated as soon as the pending continental tournaments complete their run.
The 2011 CEV Youth Girls’ Championship is scheduled to be played in upcoming May. Following the completion of Youth Girls’ Championship, the process of revision will be initiated.
