  1. theres nothing to wory about, just because u served it out u should serve from a bit farther back

    find a college nearby

they have camps all the time

  2. umm there's a volleyball clinic at Steven's Institute of Technology in hoboken, but that's during the summer. i think the city might have a few places you could probably play in, but as for clinics i'm not too sure.

take a few steps farther back when you're serving. that's what i do whenever i'm serving with too much power.

  3. Best option : take a few steps farther back before you serve! Also, there are some ways to learn more about serving and using top spin. See my sources below...

  4. Stop your arm when it gets to the top of your serve (don't follow through all the way).  This will give you a floater and control

  5. so happy u love vball so do i just read my name :-)

ok well here are some tips:

~ take a few steps back. u dont have to go very far, but dont be right at the line

~dont throw the ball up very far. jus throw it up as far as u need to be able to hit it accurately

~try to aim across the court (diagonally) but if there is an open space, try to aim it there so that u can get an ace. but make sure u no wat the other team can do, because they could be just trying to trick you. it depends on what level u r on (jv varsity club etc)

~take a deep breath right before u hit the ball. it can relax you right before u hit the ball so that u dont way overpower it

    hope i helped!! <3

  6. Alright, Dan_Ye got the points.

For me, powerful serves are needed in order to get aces. But only with the right techniques, you'll be able to make it. I was like you before. When I tried an overhead serve, it went everywhere outside the court.

I suggest you try to master run-and-jumping overhead serve, because this kind or serve really needs power. Plus, if your height is more than 1.8m and you can jump as high as a feet and half, then it'll be a bonus. This serve acts just like a spike. But, instead of killing the ball, you should combine the spiking technique with floating technique.

Take a few steps behind the court, as far as you can. Then, ease yourself a bit, and try to look to where will you going to send the ball. It starts with a slow run. Then toss the ball a bit higher before you apply the serve. You'll need to jump when applying the serve. Do the serve just like you want to spike, but with the combination of float serve. At this point, you really need power.

This serve could work just fine with junior level, because it's something that the junior players fear. They might not be able to dig the ball properly like senior or national-ranked players do, especially when they're not good in digging the ball. My juniors call it 'killer serve' because the speed of the ball and the way the ball goes into the oppositions' court.

But this serve don't work fine with me because I'm too short - around 1.65m tall...

  7. same here.  i once served in the championship game from one side of the gym to the wall of the other.  just cool, it a lil and idk about hte clinics but in usavolleyball.com you can search for clubs under juniors and sumthin might come up

  8. MY DAUTHER USED TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AT SCHOOL! AND HER SERVE WASN'T ALWAYS GOOD! JUST KIDDING ONE TIME IN HER TOURDAMENT SHE HIT THE BALL AND IT WENT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GYM! ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS PRATICE HARD AND  HAVE FATE IN YOURSELF AND YOU MIGHT NEVER LOSE THE BALL AGAIN!

  9. its not completely about power its all about form!  and if its goin' out ....your hitting it too  high or too hard.  when you serve you need to have a flat hand and stop your arm swing as soon as you hit the ball.  its called pop and stop.  this makes the ball float and more difficult to pass!  hope this helps!

  10. just don't serve so hard.

    and take couple steps back.

  11. well just try to keep your hand pointed straight and dont turn it sideways or anything. point your hand in the direction you want the ball to go toward

  12. It sounds like you are hitting what is called a float serve, where the ball continue to go on, "floating." This is due to the way you hit the ball. Your probably hitting it straight on in the center of the ball. Floater serves however are meant to throw people off; its not supposed to be a HARD hit serve.

In order to change this, I suggest a different kind of serve. You can hit the old fashioned top spin serve. This is easy, just hit it like you normally do, but follow through and snap your wrist. It might take a while to get used to, but it takes a little practice. This is the kind of serve you want to hit hard!!

  13. You are okay and may not need any clinics.

Just practice more serves. When serving, call out the spot and hit (not hit it then call it :)

If you can consistently hit all six spots (like you are hitting the weakest passer) and those in between at will, with different serving power of course, you will no longer have to worry about your mad powerful serve.

It will take some time to get there, but it is fun even if it means hours and hours of practice. Remember to mix your top spin power serves and floaters.

  14. I have a Junior Olympic player that has the same problem with her serve, she has the most powerful serve and just control it. I tell her to relax when she gets there and make sure she gets back from the line.  Another hint (which your really not suppose to do) drop your shoulder just a little for then its not a perfect toss and you won't get as much force when you contact the ball....hope this helps!!!

  15. I luv volleyball! And I'm glad you luv it too! Well, I had the same problem! here are some sugggestions:

    1. step back

    2. serve cross court

    3. throw your ball lower

Hope that helped! Good luck and have fun!=)

  16. All you need to do is take a few steps back and snap your wrist when you serve..

making the ball serve down into their court.

    i had the same problem.

but now i got mad serves.

  17. ok wut u need to do is get a high toss and get on top the ball and snap ur wrist to make it have top spin and drop. hope i helped

  18. As far as the clinics, I do not know of any.  But try contacting the commissioner of the region in your area.  I went on the usavolleyball.org web site and found out that you are in the Garden Empire region.  Bob Dingee is the commissioner of your region and is a friend.  Please email him at

commissioner@geva.org and tell him Gordon says "hi."

I will combine some of the other answers and change some of the other answers.

    Step back.

    Serve cross court.

One suggestion was to toss lower.  I will suggest that you toss higher if it makes you reach higher.  One of your problems might be that you are not reaching high enough to hit the ball at full extension.  You could be serving the ball up because you are not reaching to contact the ball.  If you reach higher, you will not be serving the ball up as much.

What kind of serve are you using?  If it is a floater, take some of the power off and let the ball float.  If it is a topspin and it is going long, then your contact point is too far behind you.
