Volleyball needs a boost in Kenya, says Barac Zdeslav – Volleyball News
Barac Zdeslav, the president of the Croatian Volleyball Federation, recently paid a friendly visit to Kenya.
He was invited to attend the 13th Paul Bitok International women’s volleyball tournament, which took place at the Eldoret Polytechnic in Kenya. Barac was joined by the chairman of Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Waithaka Kioni and the mentor of the Uganda
Volleyball Federation (UVF) Sadik Nasiwu.
The visiting CVF President was happy to see the potential in the area and stressed the need to improve the conditions of volleyball in Kenya.
In this connection, he urged the local government and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) to work for the development and growth of the challenging sport of volleyball in the country. He shared his views in the following manner: “The government
should pay more attention to the development of the sport especially the infrastructure. A hall for indoor games should be build to enable teams compete at top level.”
During his visit, he saw the aspiring volleyball athletes playing on the grass and in the open space. He expressed delight about the interest of Kenyan athletes, who are keeping the great tradition of playing volleyball alive.
Kenya Volleyball Federation, which was founded in 1964, is affiliated to the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). Since its formation, the KVF has promoted volleyball and has produced various teams
such as national volleyball teams, youth, junior teams. For several years, Kenya women’s volleyball teams have done well in Africa at club and national levels.
Barac emphasized that the Kenyan volleyball needs a little more attention, in take a step to the betterment. Furthermore, the CVF President shared his views about the upcoming elections of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) planned for September
in Anaheim, USA. He supported Brazilian Ary Graca to become the next President of the FIVB).
In the following statement, he highlighted the skills of Graca. He said: “Graca has a good vision for the development of volleyball at the grass roots and international Volleyball. FIVB needs someone who will have a new and different perspective of doing
things for the prosperity of the sport.”
