Volleyball news: FIVB announces the Beach Volleyball Test Event for London 2012 Olympic Games
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) is always very keen to set up the exciting events for players and other volleyball enthusiasts. Lately, the FIVB has come up with the unique idea to organise a test beach volleyball event
in London. They have announced that the 2012 London Olympics test beach volleyball event will be held from 9-14 August 2011. The test event will feature the women’s competitions at this stage. A total of 24 teams will be on the board to contest their abilities
on sand. This test event will give a flavour of original tournament.
The Horse Guard Parade will host the event on temporary courts. The Horse Guard parade comes right next to Buckingham Palace in London. For this purpose, an artificial arena will be installed. The match courts will be created by brining sand from outside.
The event will have the same procedure of Olympic Games for competitions and it will give out a complete picture of London 2012 Olympic Games. According to the experts’ estimation, the venue has a capacity to accommodate 15,000 people.
The programme manager of British Volleyball Federation, Kenny Barton discussed the prospects of 2012 Olympic Games and expressed his views about the test event. He said: “It is fantastic to be having this test event next year to give a flavour of what it
will be like having beach volleyball at such an iconic location in 2012. The girls travel all over the world so to have this competition confirmed on the calendar in London in August will be fantastic.”
“It will be a huge boost for the girls to experience the actual London 2012 venue as they step up their preparations for the Olympics. If we can get a big, vocal crowd there at the Horse Guards Parade making a lot of noise and getting involved, I really
think that can help push us to another level. Right in the centre of London, it will be one of the most accessible venues in 2012 and I am sure it will be the place to be.”
The Federation International de Volleyball is optimistic about the success of this test event. It is great opportunity to gain experience of the real tournament. It will surely sharpen their skills and improve their performance.
