Volleyball news: Punches of fury continue, as FIVB Women’s World Championship resumes
The 16th edition of the FIVB Women’s World Championship has successfully covered the initial leg of first round on Sunday. The championship is scheduled to run from October 29 to November 14, 2010. A total of 36 matches were played in six pools
of 24 teams’ squad, which resulted in elimination of one team from each pool. The remaining 20 teams got an opportunity to rest for one day on Monday, 1st October, 2010. The championship has resumed today (Tuesday) at 1pm local time and battle for
supremacy is being fought in respective pools.
The second leg of the first round is very important as it will promote better teams in the second round of the tournament. One match has been played in the each pool by now.
Pool A fixtures
Serbia vs. Algeria Poland vs. Peru Costa Rica vs. Japan
Poland played the first match of the day against Peru at Yoyogi National Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan. Polish team came strong on Peruvian ‘force’ and thrashed 25-10, 25-12, and 25-16 to clinch match victory.
Pool B Fixtures
Brazil vs. Puerto Rico Netherlands vs. Korea Czech Republic vs. Italy
In Pool B, Brazil staged a spectacular game against Puerto Rico. The Hamamatsu Arena in Hamamatsu recorded Brazil’s straight-set victory over Puerto Rico. Brazilian squad performed very well and pulled off success by establishing a score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-18,
and 25-20).
Pool C Fixtures
Croatia vs. Germany Thailand vs. Cuba United States vs. Kazakhstan
Likewise, Germany outplayed Croatia in the first match of Pool C. The Croatian team created a lot of resistance in the game but remained unsuccessful. Germany had a hard time to dismantle their power and grab the control of operations. However, Germany managed
to steal points from Croatia and ousted them with a score of 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, and 25-21).
Pool D Fixtures
Turkey vs. Canada Russia vs. South Korea Dominican Republic vs. China
The long tiring match which continued for five sets was played between Turkey and Canada on the same day. The match was played in the Japanese city Osaka. The two teams created a lot of noise and finally Turkey attained better status. Canada suffered the
damage and received 2-3 (25-19, 25-20, 14-25, 17-25, and 8-15) defeat.
